MONEY MAKES THE WORLD GO ROUND?

“Money makes the world go round; however, happiness greases the axle.

Without this lubricant, life will seize.”

Paul Van Der Merwe

The lyrics of 'Money makes the world go round' may be somewhat repetitive but ... that the speed with which the money went around would affect the economy.

"People Make the World Go Round" is a song written by Thom Bell and Linda Creed, originally recorded by The Stylistics and released in 1972 through Avco Records as the final single from their self-titled debut studio album, The Stylistics (1971). It reached #25 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, #25 on the Adult Contemporary chart, and #6 on the Soul Singles chart in the United States.

Some people have money to burn! Every time I observe them, I feel that their money is going down their drain. Yes, "money talks". The more money you have, the more you might become avaricious. Every time we have to dig deeper into our pockets, we might long to be like those people, who don't see the difference between a 500 or 1,000 bill.

I am really not rich! I also wouldn't hesitate to say that I would like to be so! Being rich means having wealth! Wealth is abundance, opulence and affluence. Affluences become quickly influenced. Dyed-in-the-wool millionaires or even multi-millionaires lose their view of reality many times. They can't even see the horizon, which could be the demarcation of their real estate. They don't even recognize the wonderful flowers growing and blooming in their gardens.

Money calms down! Sure. No doubts at all! We all need an income to survive for our daily needs - and, maybe, a little bit more. Many of us struggle through life and work like slaves for a pitiful daily minimum wage. If you're rich, you might be on the top. But believe me, once you are on top, you will have some unwelcome, mostly acceptable companions such as loneliness, so-called friends (!), parasites and free-loaders.

These companions will let you scream in pain, because you will start missing things you have expected from them: real friendship, love, care, comprehension, understanding, sympathy, appreciation... .Remember such things? Miss such things?

Yes, money can give you a wonderful sleep, and you might stay in one of the most luxurious beds - but being awake, while your poorest neighbor sleeps better and more peacefully on the floor. There are many sayings about money. I like this one: Money can buy books but not brains. You might study a lot and get a lot of experiences; it's just a pity, if you don't use them at the right time for the right people in your surroundings.

Money can buy food but no appetite. Who reaps the benefits of it? A full to overflowing store room will never be satisfying, if sour free-loaders join your table and push away your real friends.

Our last earthly dress has no more pockets. The remembrance of how we acted and lived together with our fellow creatures will remain forever. With money, we might be able to let the devil dance. But, money alone doesn't make us happy. Money kills more people and friendships than a cudgel.

The more money, the more problems.

The more money, the more we have to pay and the higher our bills become... .

Who wants to be a billionaire?

My column in Mindanao Daily - the Mindanao wide circulated publication

Some people have money to burn! Every time, I observe them, I feel that their money is going down their drain. Yes, "money talks". The more money you have, the more you might become avaricious. Every time, we have to dig deeper into our pockets, we might longing to be like those people, who don't see the difference between a 500 or 1,000 bill.

On the other hand, the number of billionaires worldwide rises rapidly.

Last year saw the rise of some 200 additional billionaires who contributed to boosting the collective wealth of the super rich. A fresh report -just on my desk- showed that growth was led by the world's second-largest economy, China.

The number of billionaires rose to 2,158 in 2017, Swiss banking giant UBS and consultancy PwC said in a report last Friday (October 26, 2018). It showed that a total of 199 new billionaires were created over the year globally.

Their collective wealth increased by 19 percent to the staggering total of $8.9 trillion (€7.83 trillion), led by growth in China.

Nearly a third of the new billionaires gained their wealth through some form of innovation, while the rest did so by scaling up businesses in the Asia-Pacific region, the report noted.

According to the Billionaires Insight Report, "China's billionaire entrepreneurs are leading their country's economic transformation, and by extension that of the rest of Asia."

It added that over little more than a decade, they had created some of the world's largest companies, raised living standards and made fortunes at an unprecedented pace.

UBS and PwC emphasized that there were already more billionaires in Asia than in the United States, and they were on course to be wealthier than their US peers within three years.

"A new cohort of Chinese entrepreneurs is challenging Silicon Valley amid rising tensions over trade and intellectual property," the survey argued. "They are developing new business models, moving rapidly between sectors."

"Ongoing urbanization and productivity growth would help the young entrepreneurs at the forefront of China's wealth creation continue to reach the ranks of the billionaires in the coming years," the report concluded.

Yes, money can give you a wonderful sleep, and you might stay in one of the most luxurious beds - but being awake, while your poorest neighbor sleeps better and more peaceful on the floor. There are many sayings about money. I like this one: Money can buy books but not brains. You might study a lot and get a lot of experiences; it's just a pity, if you don't use them at the right time for the right people in your surroundings.

Spending money like water?

Spending money like water?

IN MY OPINIONKlaus Doring
Some people have money to burn! Oh yes, just the opposite: they are spending it like water. Every time I observe them, I feel that their money is going down their drain. Yes, “money talks.”
The more money you have, the more you might become avaricious. Every time, we have to dig deeper into our pockets, we might longing to be like those people, who don’t see the difference between a 500 or 1,000 bill.
Oh yes, money matters! I am really not rich! I also wouldn’t hesitate to say, that I would like to be so! Being rich means having wealth! Wealth is abundance, opulence and affluence. Affluences become quickly influence. Dyed-in-the-wool millionaires or even multi-millionaires over lose their view of reality many times. Philippines Promises to Return 81M US$ Stolen From Bangladesh

By Reuters

Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has given a commitment that $81 million stolen by cyber criminals from the account of Bangladesh Bank in New York and funneled through bank accounts in Manila would be returned, the Bangladesh ambassador to the Philippines said on Friday.
A Bangladesh central bank team visiting Manila to recover the money said earlier on Friday that it was close to getting back $15 million of the loot frozen by the Philippines.
Cyber criminals tried to steal nearly $1 billion from Bangladesh Bank’s account at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York in February, and succeeded in transferring $81 million to four accounts at Manila’s Rizal Commercial Banking Corp.
The money was then laundered through the city’s casinos, according to investigators.
Only about $18 million, including $2.7 million frozen by the Philippines’ casino regulator, has been accounted for.
The Philippines’ Department of Justice has asked the Bangladesh Bank delegation to file a legal document staking its claim to $15 million of that, but the casino money will have to be pursued separately, said two sources close to the visiting team.
“We are very hopeful that we will get the total $81 million,” said Ambassador John Gomes, who is helping the bank representatives on a four-day visit to Manila ending Friday.
“The reason is I got a commitment from the president himself,” he said.
He added Bangladesh’s finance minister might come to the Philippines to meet Duterte to help in the recovery of the money.
Gomes said the bank felt RCBC should be held responsible because it did not follow a stop-payment request from Bangladesh Bank, and its lawyer Ajmalul Hossain said it would sue RCBC if it was not able to recover the entire $81 million.
