Sayaw Pinoy 2012 Goes to Davao City


"Sayaw Pinoy", the longest running national dance tour featured in this year's Philippine Arts Festival (PAF), will be staged in Davao City on February 3 - 4.

The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) brings in to Davao City the country's top dance companies to perform the dance tour that will showcase colorful tradition of dances and movements in the country.



NCCA's National Committee on Dance head Shirley Halili-Cruz said that the national dancer groups together with three local dance groups in the city will carry-out different dance forms, such as classical ballet, folk dance, contemporary, and modern dance like hip-hop.

The back-to-back performances will be staged at the Philippine Nikkei-Jin Kai International School and University of Southeastern Philippines (USEP) on February 3, 2012 and at SM City Davao and Abreeza Mall on February 4, 2012.

The dance tour "aims to reach the grass roots level to discover new talents as well as to connect to more Filipino dance artists," said Halili-Cruz.

The Rebirth of The Manisan Dance Group from Davao City

The Grand Alumni Homecoming of the International Harvardian University on August 21, 2011 in Davao City made it possible. The Manisan Dance Group, trained by former IHU principal and culture head Mr. Nick Balcom, with lead dancer Rossana Balcom-Doring has been back on stage.

Philippine Dances/Philippinische Taenze


Eine junge Frau bewegt sich langsam und selbstsicher vorwaerts, Sie traegt ihren Kopf erhoben, nach fuerstlicher Art. In den Armen haelt sie zwei grosse Faecher. An ihrem praechtigen Kleid laesst sich ablesen, dass sie reich und priviligiert ist - sie ist eine Prinzessin. Eine Dienerin haelt einen mit Quasten besetzten Sonnenschirm ueber ihren Kopf und folgt jedem ihrer Schritte. Vier Begleiter bringen zwei Bambussstangen herein, legen sie kreuzweise auf den Boden, ueber- und untereinander, und beginnen, sie in einem rhytmischen Fuenftertakt gegeneinanderzuschlagen. Die Edelfrau beginnt mit grosser Anmut und Gelassenheit zwischen den in bewegungbefindlichen Stangen zu tanzen. Dieser Tanz, der moslemische SINGKIL, wird  haeufig von halbprofessionellen Tanzgruppen aufgefuehrt. 


Tief im Innern des Landes hoert man das Echo des Gonges, die verkuenden, dass die Maedchen zu tanzen beginnen. Mit Floeten und Bambusharfen spielen die jungen Maenner des Dorfes ihrer Geliebten eine Serenade.

Jeder Stamm hat seine eigenen Traditionen und Braeuche, eigene Taenze und dazu eine eigene Musik.
