Bela Padilla is a remarkable individual who wears many hats as a director, producer, actor, and businesswoman. She is truly the epitome of someone who can be her own boss.

Despite all her achievements and the blessings that come with her diverse roles, there is one opportunity she hesitates to accept: working in theater.

During an episode of the Manila Bulletin's podcast, "The Sit Down," Bela shared her reasons for not wanting to try theater.

"Maybe one day in the future, but kasi, honestly, first, I have terrible stage fright. Second, I'm super forgetful, and my attention span is so short. So I feel like I would forget every show, may makakalimutan akong line for sure. (Maybe one day in the future. But honestly, first of all, I have terrible stage fright. Second, I'm really forgetful, and my attention span is super short—so I feel like I’d forget every show, and I’d definitely forget my lines)," Bela said.

Bela mentioned that she often forgets her routine, such as catching up with friends, but she never forgets her lines when filming.

"Funny story tho, I'm forgetful with everything, like I could meet a person like two days ago, and then I wouldn't know their name today. Pero kapag lines sa film, I'll remember everything kahit yung lines ng kaeksena ko. (Funny thing is, I'm super forgetful about everything—like, I could meet someone two days ago and already forget their name. But when it comes to film lines, I remember everything—even my co-star’s lines)," she  added.

Although the actress is still hesitant about trying theater, JC Santos, her leading man in the movie "100 Awit Para Kay Stella," reassured her that there's no harm in giving it a try.

"Kung ako naman kasama mo hindi naman mangyayari yun, pero konting push na lang feeling ko mapiplit ko na siya. (If I were with you, that wouldn't happen, but with just a little push, I feel like I can force her)," JC said.

  • Vivian joined pageantry mainly to inspire other women.
After competing for the crown of Mrs. Universe 2025 Philippines, successful business owner and beauty queen Vivian Caramba is ready for the challenge.
During an intimate press conference held at the Lexus Manila Gallery in Taguig, Vivian shared her story and why she decided to enter pageantry.
"I entered pageantry kasi gusto ko ipakita na ang tagumpay ay hindi lamang sa negosyo, ito ay nagbibigay inspirasyon sa ating kapwa lalo na sa mga kababaihan," Vivian said.
(I entered pageantry to show that success isn’t limited to the business world — it can also inspire our communities, especially other women.)
Reflecting on her childhood, Vivian shared that she only took part in high school intramurals and never imagined she would one day step onto a real pageant stage.
"Before kinukuha na ako as muse, like varsity muse mga ganun pero I never expected na makakasali ako sa Mrs. Universe. Actually medyo nasurprise nga ako na kinukuha ako to participate on this pageant," she said.
(Before this, I was chosen as a muse for school events, like for the varsity team, but I never imagined I’d one day be part of something like Mrs. Universe. Honestly, I was a bit surprised when I was invited to join the pageant.
According to Vivian, it was an unforgettable experience for her to be able to walk on stage and win the crown.
"Kasi kung ano yung hindi ko naranasan dati kung kailan nagka-edad ako tsaka ako nakaranas ng ganitong pangyayari sa buhay ko," she added.
(Because it was something I had never gone through before — and to experience it later in life made it even more meaningful)
As the newly crowned Mrs. Universe PH 2025, Vivian also received a luxurious Lexus vehicle from her husband, Bernie Caramba. The couple's friends and family were present during the official turnover of the car.
The Lexus LM highlighted during the ceremony is regarded as the pinnacle of luxury mobility. Its spacious design, advanced innovations, and unmatched comfort make it the ultimate choice for those who value prestige and elegance in every journey.

Still Lani: A musical journey

 By Carissa Alcantara

Published Aug 26, 2025 12:01 pm

The singer relived 40 years of her singing career via a memorable concert at The Theater at Solaire, recently.

Asia's Nightingale, Lani Misalucha, celebrated her 40th year in the music scene with an unforgettable concert held at The Theater at Solaire last Aug. 21.

Lani entered the stage in a dazzling golden outfit, singing "As If We Never Said Goodbye” from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s "Sunset Boulevard."

She told the crowd, ''Maraming salamat po for being here. And before I continue, I just want to greet all of us happy 40th anniversary. Imagine that? 40 years -- 4 decades -- marami na po tayong napagdaanan through ups and downs, kaya let's try na balikan yun through my songs," Lani said.

(Thank you for being here. Before I go any further, I want to greet all of us a happy 40th anniversary. Imagine that? Forty years—four decades—we’ve been through so many ups and downs together. So now, let’s take a moment to look back on that journey through my songs.)

Lani went on to perform songs she did back when she was just establishing her career, starting with "Feeling Good", followed by  Chaka Khan’s "Through the Fire," Diane Reeves’ "Better Days," Basia’s "Promises," Anita Baker’s "Caught Up in the Rapture," Natalie Cole’s "Miss You Like Crazy" and Karyn White’s "Super Woman."

The crowd sang along with Lani, seemingly only too eager to relive the good old days with her.

At one point, Lani recalled a story when the late Bodjie Dasig, husband of Odette Quesada, convinced her to record an album.

"Actually, tatlong beses ako kinulit ni Bodjie to make an album, but I guess third time's a charm. We recorded my debut album, 'More than I Should', in 1997," Lani shared.

(Actually, Bodjie asked me three times to make an album, but I guess the third time's a charm. We recorded my debut album, 'More than I Should', in 1997)

She then performed the song "Sana Dalawa Ang Puso Ko" alongside theater actor Paeng Sudayan.

She followed it up with "Sa Sakayan ng Jeep" with Leanne and Naara, and "Isang Ulit Man La ng" with Shaira Opsimar.

Also present during the concert are National Artist for Music Ryan Cayabyab, and songwriters Vehnee Saturno, Jungee Marcelo, Trina Belamide, and Jimmy Antiporda.

Also seen there were Nonoy Zuñiga, Dulce, Bianca Lapus, Tim Pavino, Pepe Herrera, designer Renee Salud, Ida Henares, and Julius and Tintin Babao.

The night continued with Lani showing off her singing prowess taking on covers.

She started with Celine Dion’s "It’s All Coming Back To Me Now" followed by Whitney Houston’s "I Wanna Run To You" and Mariah Carey’s "Forever."

As if to make clear she's not all about simply mining the past, Lani segued to Lady Gaga's ''Abracadabra."

"It still feels great trying out something new," Lani remarked.

Then Ben&Ben took the stage and performed the song "Vincent" with Lani.

The band then performed “Courage,” followed by their hit “Leaves”—both of which they dedicated to her.

After performing her new song, "Aking tatanggapin," Lani ended the concert with an orchestral version of "Bukas Na Lang Kita Mamahalin" featuring the Ateneo Chamber Singers.

“Still, Lani” will be staged in different venues across the archipelago later this year.

It will also be staged abroad.

Pinoy pride indeed!

Filipino-American composer and percussionist Susie Ibarra won the Pulitzer Prize for Music for her work "Sky Land," which features an eight-piece ensemble inspired by the rainforests of Luzon.

"Sky Land" premiered on July 18, 2024, in New York commissioned by the Asia Society. Susie mentioned in a statement that "the composition draws from the rainforest ecosystems of Luzon and explores themes of biodiversity, climate change, and community practices. Traditional Philippine sounds featured in the piece include Northern-style bamboo instruments, gongs, and the flute."

The premiere performance featured an eight-piece ensemble, including Ibarra herself, flutist Claire Chase, pianist Alex Peh, and members of the Bergamot Quartet.

Her fellow nominees were Jalalu-Kalvert Nelson for "Jim is Still Crowing" and George Lewis for "The Comet."

The Pulitzer Board praised the composition for “challenging the notion of the compositional voice by intertwining the profound musicianship and improvisational skills of a soloist as a creative tool.” Ibarra received a $15,000 (P830,000) together with her fellow recipients.

Founder of Susie Ibarra Studios and Habitat Sound, the Fil-Am composer works at the intersection of sound, sustainability, and social justice.

Well-known venues such as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and Museum of Modern Art have displayed Susie's work. In addition to that, she is also a co-founder of Song of the Bird King, an organization dedicated to preserving indigenous music and ecological knowledge in the Philippines.

Raised in Houston by her Filipino parents, Ibarra is trained in both Western classical music and the Philippine kulintang tradition.

Like Susie, several Filipino-Americans have won the Pulitzer Prize, including Bryan Acohido, Alex Tizon, Jose Antonio Vargas, and Cheryl Diaz.

Other Pulitzer Prize winners include the late diplomat Carlos P. Romulo in 1942 and writer Manny Mogato in 2018.

Kapamilya actress Sue Ramirez gave a beautiful, blooming aura when asked about her relationship with Dominic Roque.

During the press conference for her upcoming film "In Between" with Diego Loyzaga at the Viva Cafe in Araneta City, Sue opened up about the current state of her love life with Dom.

"Ang saya lang po sa totoo lang, walang pressure. Masaya lang kami lagi, lumalabas kami, we enjoy our time together, explore, go on adventures together, and eat the best food together. (It's just fun, really, no pressure. We're always happy, go out, enjoy our time together, explore, go on adventures together, and eat the best food together)," Sue said.

The actress also added that knowing each other's interests is essential when committing to a relationship.

"I think the foundation of starting a relationship is finding out kung ano yung mga interest niyo. So far, swak naman yung interest naming dalawa. (I believe the foundation of starting a relationship is finding your interests. So far, our interests are compatible)," she added.

It can be recalled that the two sparked dating rumors when they were spotted kissing inside a bar in November 2024. This added more fuel when they were spotted allegedly together at a social gathering, and again when they were seen holding hands crossing the street.

Sue finally addressed the rumor and confirmed they were dating during her ambush interview in December for the Metro Manila Film Festival movie, "The Kingdom." Meanwhile, Dominic also addressed the rumor as he was present at the event at that time.

Dominic launched his Instagram with a subtle hard launch, posting a picture with Sue and his other celebrity friends at the Angrydobo Restaurant owned by Judy Ann Santos-Agoncillo. Dominic and Sue first appeared together on the red carpet at the Star Magic Ball last April 4.

Before they hit it off, Dominic was in a three-year relationship with Bea Alonzo. He proposed to Bea in July 2023, but they eventually called it off in January 2024.

In November, Victorias City mayor Javi Benitez confirmed that he and Sue have parted ways after five years of being together.

Working again with Diego Loyzaga

After working on the film "How to Love Mr. Heartless" in 2022, Sue and Diego are back on the big screen.

"The good thing about working again with Diego is nagkasama na kami sa ASAP chill out for a couple of years. So every time we see each other, walang pagbabago, nagkukulitan pa rin kami. So ayun yung maganda about this project. (The good thing about working again with Diego is that we've been together on ASAP chill out for a couple of years. So every time we see each other, there's no difference; we're still the same kids. So that's what's good about this project)," Sue said.

Katrina Halili on being mom to daughter Katie: 'Medyo dragon ako'

BY CARISSA ALCANTARA

AT A GLANCE

  • Although she was strict with her daughter, Katrina observed that such situations rarely occur.

Every day is a learning process for celebrity mom Katrina Halili as she navigates motherhood with her daughter Katie.

In her upcoming series, "Mommy Dearest," Katrina shares her experiences, highlighting both the joys and challenges of being a mother.

During a press junket interview with the cast, Katrina shared that she's a bit strict regarding her daughter.

"Medyo dragon ako, kasi hindi pwedeng hindi tayo maging dragon sa mga anak natin pero kasi hindi maiintindihan ng iba so kailangan ipaliwanag talaga natin sa kanila. Kaya ngayon, dragon pero may paliwanag sa anak kasi ayun yung natutunan nung lumaki ako.
(I often feel like a dragon, not because I want to be fearsome to my children, but because I need to explain my behavior to others who may not understand. While I may come across as strict or tough, I've learned that it's important to provide my child with context and explanations about my choices, much like how I was taught when I was growing up.)

"Dati nagawa ko patulan si Katie, pero narealize ko na hindi siya pwedeng ganun. Ang kanya mas more on tinatanggalan ko siya ng gadget or bawal siya manood ng TV kung ano yung mga gusto niya gawin aalisin ko, sabihin ko one week siya grounded. Mas sumunsunod siya sa ganun. (I used to be able to beat Katie, but I've realized that she can be more stubborn than I thought. She's more compliant when I take away her gadgets or prevent her from watching TV — things she really enjoys. When I impose these restrictions, I tell her she's grounded for a week. She tends to follow my rules more closely when I do that)," Katrina added.

The celebrity mother openly shared that having a child on the autism spectrum made her change her approach to discipline.

"Mali rin talaga na nagsasakitan kaming dalawa tapos siya nagiging wild siya, grabe yung tantrums niya kasi may ASD siya kaya hindi ko siya pwede patulan. Kaya mas effective talaga for me is yung alisin yung mga gusto niya gawin. (It’s really unfair that we both end up hurt and then she becomes unruly. Her tantrums are difficult to manage because she has ASD, so I can’t resort to hitting her. Instead, it’s more effective for me to take away the things she wants to do)," Katrina shared.

Although she was strict with her daughter, Katrina observed that such situations rarely occur.

Katrina's relationship with mom

Katrina acknowledged that she has had a complicated relationship with her mother since childhood.

"Simula bata talaga ako, hindi ako okay sa mama ko kasi masyado siyang strict, so during that time laging akong umaalis hindi ko siya pinakikinggan. Pero mahal niya ako, syempre nung nag anak ako dun ko narealize na pagmamahal pala yun. (Since I was very young, I struggled with my relationship with my mom because she was quite strict. During that time, I often ignored her and walked away. However, I now understand that her actions came from love. When I became a parent myself, I truly realized what love really means)," Katrina shared.

Ever since Katrina became a mom, the relationship between her and her mother has grown and matured.

"Ngayon sobrang okay na kami simula nung nagka anak ako, dati talaga inisip ko na hindi na kami magbabati, siguro kapag matanda na lang ako. Pero ngayon lola na siya dun na siya nabawi sa pagiging spoiled sa kanila. (Now we've been doing very well since I had a child. I used to think that we wouldn't be okay, maybe when I was old. But now she's a grandmother, and she's the one spoiling her grandkids)," she said.

Prepare to witness an out-of-the-box story about family, mother’s love, and self-discovery that is sure to keep the viewers on the edge of their seats in “Mommy Dearest.”

Bianca Umali on sharing a scene with Nora Aunor: 'It was magical'

BY CARISSA ALCANTARA

Bianca Umali couldn't help but smile as she recalled one of the many memorable moments she shared with the one and only Superstar Nora Aunor on the set of ''Mananambal."

During a media conference held at Viva Cafe last Feb. 6, Bianca related how "magical" it was filming their final scene together.

"I was very nervous to do that scene and it was one of those days na kaming dalawa [Nora] lang po yung magkasama nun on set. It was not a comfortable situation to be in pero being there with her and seeing her acting as if she was as young as she used to be, it was magical," Bianca said.

She added, "Ayun yung sinasabi ko na masterclass because I dream of being like that."

Apparently, Bianca wants to be an inspiration to others very much like Nora.

"No matter how cruel this world is you hold on to what you love doing and you do it to inspire people and to be kinder to the people around you," Biance said.

viber_image_2025-02-07_14-43-55-360.jpgviber_image_2025-02-07_14-43-57-653.jpg

Bianca also shared how she learned to trust her co-actors through Nora.

"The level of kung paano po siya magtiwala sa mga katrabaho niya, regardless kung ano po ang posisyon. Isa po kasi yun sa mga learnings ko as one of the new generation of actors dito po sa industriya, kung gaano po kahalaga ang healthy and collaborative working environment and isa po yun sa nakita ko kay Ate Guy," Bianca mentioned.

"Mananambal" follows a group of ambitious content creators in search of Lucia (Aunor), the “mananambal” whose extraordinary healing powers have recently gone viral.

Their pursuit leads them to Alma (Umali), Lucia’s strong-willed daughter, who refuses to follow her mother’s path and is eager to live life on her own terms.

The group’s persistence to use Alma as their way to Lucia crosses dangerous lines, leaving Alma broken and betrayed.

Directed by Adolfo Alix Jr, the riveting new horror masterpiece also stars Kelvin Miranda, Edgar Allan Guzman, Jeric Gonzales, and Martin Escudero.

It hits cinemas nationwide on February 19.
