Davao City is phasing out traditional jeepneys in favor of a modern bus-based transport system—the Davao Public Transport Modernization Project (DPTMP), also known as the HPBS or Davao Bus Project.
While the full-scale bus system is planned to be partially operational by 2027, the transitional phase caused a vacuum: jeepney franchises have been reduced or not renewed in expectation of the new system.
