25 YEARS IN THE PHILIPPINES AS GERMAN EXPATRIATE (III)

I can't remember when you weren't there

When I didn't care for anyone but you

I swear we've been through everything there is

Can't imagine anything we've missed

Can't imagine anything the two of us can't do

Through the years, you've never let me down

You've turned my life around

The sweetest days I've found, I've found with you

Through the years, I've never been afraid

I've loved the life we've made

And I'm so glad I stayed right here with you

Through the years

Beyond the lyrics, the musicality of the song also plays a crucial role in its emotional power. The song is carried on a slow, melodic tune that mimics the gentle rhythm of a heartbeat. The slow tempo conveys a sense of patience and resolve, emphasizing the idea that love is a journey, not a destination.

Kenny Rogers’ iconic country ballad, “Through The Years” has been a favorite among lovebirds and music enthusiasts alike. Its soulful words and touching melody have moved countless listeners over the years.

“Through The Years” was released in 1982 as part of Kenny Rogers’ album, “Share Your Love.” The song was written by Steve Dorff and Marty Panzer, two of the most renowned songwriters at the time.

It is said that Dorff had been going through some personal troubles when he wrote the song. He was going through a divorce and missed his kids desperately. Panzer, on the other hand, was struggling to come up with the perfect lyrics to fit Dorff’s tune.

According to an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Panzer revealed that he was inspired by a photo hanging in his den of his grandparents on their 50th wedding anniversary. The photo had been taken “when he was a little boy and his grandparents appeared so much more romantic than the younger couples at the party.”

While writing this part, my time in the Philippines almost reached 26 years.

I started loving the Philippines. I started loving my life here. I tried to accept Philippine Time and many other things, but the culture shock has been recognized by other expatriates. Yes, sorry, maybe I am a lucky guy. As one says: One in a million. Or ten in a million.

Well, I remember many messages about other expatriates. Yes, I know, I am the lucky guy here.

Many decades ago, I told everybody contacting me: "Don't compare your life with mine. Everybody is different and everybody has another partner.

Well, I have reached my 26th year as an expatriate in the Philippines. I am happy and blessed with my life here. Sorry, if some readers are not the same here. I know, it's not easy. But how and where on this planet is it easy?  I wish everyone a good life. An awesome life.

God bless you all. God bless the Philippines.

Last but never the least:  It is the 8th 💖year Anniversary of  this awesome publication. Congratulation to its publisher Maria Ces Seidel, the whole staff and -of course- all loyal readers through the last years. Thank you so much for this incredible bridge between Germany and my second home Philippines.
