MANILA, Philippines —Lady Anne Duya is said to be the first female from her tribe to pass the Criminology licensure exams.

In an ABS-CBN report, it said that the Porac, Pampanga-raised Duya passed the recent Criminologist licensure exam.

Duya hails from the Mag-indi or Mag-antsi tribe. She was among the scholars of the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) Pampanga and her provincial government. According to the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples, the Ayta Mag-antsi and Mag-indi are a group that live in the central portion of the Zambales Mountain Ranges, particularly within Pampanga.

She graduated from Central Luzon College of Science and Technology in July 2023 and was awarded with several citations, including Most Outstanding Criminology intern, service awardee and Best in Thesis.

"Sana 'wag mawalan ng pag-asa. Mangarap lang nang mangarap kasi hindi tayo babae lang o hindi tayo Aeta lang kundi isa rin tayo sa mga tao na puwedeng tumupad sa mga pangarap natin," Duya said.

Duya is among the 15,684 out of 32,495 who passed the Licensure Examination for Criminologists given by the Board of Criminology last February. The Professional Regulation Commission released the result last March 6.

In January last year, Dexter Santos Valenton became the first Aeta to pass the Criminology Board Exam.

The 34 Very Best German Sayings…EVER!

The 34 Very Best German Sayings…EVER!

14. wer A sagt, muss auch B sagen

German Saying Wer A sagt, muss auch B sagen

This German expression is very easy to understand. The literal translation would be something along the lines of “Who says A, also needs to say B”.  The exact origin of this German saying is up for debate.

There are a couple of possible explanations for this.  The easiest one being is that this German saying is simply based on the alphabet because there ―who would have thought it― B follows A.
There are other possible origins, though. One possible explanation is related to the German legal system. It’s a little bit complicated, though. It has something to do with two different verbs that are used in that context, “anklagen” and “besagen.”

As you can see, “anklagen” starts with the letter A, and “besagen” starts with the letter B.

Example:

Du hast mir diese Playstation bezahlt, dann musst du jetzt auch mit mir spielen. Wer A sagt, der muss auch B sagen!

Translation:

You bought this Playstation for me, so now you have to play with me too. Whoever says A must also say B!

12. Don't make a promise out of joy. And don't take a decision out of sadness.

13. Don't expect loyalty from people that can not give you honesty.

14. Don't give up. The beginning is always the hardest.

‘Amihan’ season may end this week — PAGASA

BY LIZST TORRES ABELLO

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said while the northeast monsoon caused a slight drop in air temperature on Wednesday, March 20, it may have its final wave in the coming days.

PAGASA weather specialist Benison Estareja said in its public forecast on Wednesday morning that the northeast monsoon, also known as "amihan," has re-strengthened, affecting a significant portion of Northern and Central Luzon where light rains are experienced.

However, he said since the warm and dry season may soon officially begin, this could be the last wave of amihan.

“By tomorrow, iiral pa rin ang northeast monsoon sa malaking bahagi ng Luzon pero inaasahan na hihina agad ito pagsapit ng Friday at maaaring ito na ang katapusan o pagtatapos ng northeast monsoon season at iiral na iyong warm dry season or tag-init sa ating bansa (By tomorrow, the northeast monsoon will still prevail in huge part of Luzon but we expect that it will suddenly weaken on Friday, and it may be the end of its season, as the warm dry season will prevail in the country),” Estareja said.

Based on the PAGASA’s extended weather outlook from March 21 to 23, the actual air temperature in some key areas are: 23–32°C in Metro Manila, 24-32° in Legazpi City, 14–24°C in Baguio City, 25–32°C in Metro Cebu, 25–32°C in Iloilo City, 24–32°C in Tacloban City, 24–34°C in Metro Davao, 24–35°C in Zamboanga City, and 24–31°C in Cagayan de Oro City.

24-hour forecast

Over the next 24 hours, PAGASA said Eastern Visayas, Sorsogon, and Masbate will have cloudy skies with scattered  rain showers and thunderstorms due to the easterlies, which are warm winds from the Pacific Ocean.  PAGASA warned the public of flash floods or landslides due to moderate to heavy rains.

In Cagayan Valley, Apayao, and Kalinga, flash floods or landslides may still occur in times of moderate to heavy rains, as cloudy skies with rains will be felt due to amihan.

Aurora and Northern Quezon will also have cloudy skies with light rains, while Metro Manila, Ilocos Region and the rest of Cordillera Administrative Region, Central Luzon, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains due to amihan.

PAGASA said the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to easterlies and localized thunderstorms.

The public was also warned of flash floods or landslides that may occur during severe thunderstorms.

A winner of the Australian and French Open junior doubles plums and a US Open junior singles crown in 2022, the globe-hopping Eala highlighted her flourishing career with a pair of bronze medals in the women’s singles and mixed doubles in the 19th Hangzhou Asian Games last October.

The pretty 18-year-old southpaw has also won four titles and two runner-up finishes as a pro on the ITF Women’s World Tennis Tour and currently boasts a career-high of No. 176 in ITF women ratings.

Bolden has been the offensive linchpin of the Filipinas over the last six years, appearing in 44 international matches and scoring 28 goals since making her debut with the national women’s football team in 2018.

The awards night designed to honor the nation’s top women athletes and women sport heroes was conceptualized by the Philippine Sports Commission-Women In Sports under the office of PSC Commissioner Olivia "Bong" Coo.

The awardees were nominated by the national sports associations under the Philippine Olympic Committee and went through a stringent selection process by the five-man judges panel. Stephen Fernandez of the Philippine Olympians Association, Nikko Huelgas of the POC Athletes Commission, Judith Staples of Masters Athletics, Carlo Sampan of Milo Philippines and Judith Caringal from the sports media comprise the judges panel, which made sure that all awardees are deserving.

They came up with the criteria for selection with support from the Philippine Commission on Women.

After a series of thorough deliberations among the judges, the awardees were chosen from the list of nearly 200 nominees across 78 sports based on their contribution to the promotion and development of their sport apart from being the top woman achiever in their sport last year.

In 2021, Bolden powered the Filipinas in securing their first FIFA World Cup appearance in reaching the semifinals of the AFC Women’s Cup in India in January  then led them to the AFF   Women’s Championship at the Rizal Memorial Stadium a few months later.

In PH side’s World Cup debut, she scored the “shot” heard around the world - a hammering header in lifting the Filipinas to a monumental 1-0 upset of the New Zealand Ferns in front of a stunned hometown crowd at the Sky Stadium in Wellington on July 25, 2023.

“The decision to award both Eala and Bolden as Athletes of the Year was quite unanimous. Both are deserving of recognition for not only making us proud of their achievements but also for serving as positive role models as Filipina athletes,” said PSC Commissioner Bong Coo.

These two outstanding athletes will headline tonight’s grand program jointly organized by the Philippine Commission on Women in partnership with  the Philippine Sports Commission, and backed by Milo, CEL Logistics and Wrist Pod.

A total of 46 major awards will also be distributed to athletes in various disciplines, five Flame Awards and seven Lifetime Achieve Awards, which will be given to past athletic performers whose sterling legacies are worth recalling until today.

The Lifetime Achievement Awardees are bowler Olivia “Bong” Coo, track and field standouts Elma Muros-Posadas, Erlinda Lavandia and the late  Lydia de Vega, back-to-back Asian Games 100-meter sprint queen, powerlifter Adeline Dumapong and gymnast and taekwondo jin Bea Lucero-Lhuillier.

Special citations will also be given out to National Academy of Sports executive director Joy Reyes, noted trainer-nutritionist Veronica Cruz, nutritionist Jeaneth Aro, sports psychologist Karen Trinidad, sportscaster Dyan Castillejo and Women in Sports Advocate Sen. Pia Cayetano.

Also invited to grace the festive occasion are PSC Chair Richard Bachmann and Sen. Christopher “Bong” Go, Senate Sports Committee Chair, who will deliver separate inspirational messages.

Always give God priority

WE can never overemphasize this need. When our relation with God is not strong, deep and abiding, there would be no other way than for us to get into some trouble sooner or later. We have to be wary of the clear and present danger of letting something else to replace God as the Number One priority in our life.

We have to do everything to fuel our need to put God always on top. The ideal that we should always try to pursue is that in our every thought, intention, word and deed, God should be the primary and ultimate object. This definitely will not be an exercise of fanaticism or rigidity as some people may suspect. Rather this how we would attain all the good that is meant for us.

We are reminded of this truth of our faith in the readings of the Mass for Wednesday of the 5th Week of Lent. (cfr. Dan 3,14-20.91-92.95 / Dan 3,5.53.54.55.56 / Jn 8,31-42) The first reading talks about how a king mocked the God of 3 young men who refused to worship his god, and threw them into a burning furnace only to observe that these young men were not burned. That was when the king realized their God was the true God.

The responsorial psalm presents a series of praises we ought to give God. We should make time to develop the habit of praising God because only then would we put ourselves in the proper frame of mind with respect to our abiding relationship with God. Let’s be wary of taking these exercises for granted.

The gospel simply reiterates the fact that only in God through Christ can we have the whole truth that brings us the real freedom and all the other good things meant for us. So, we should make no mistake about this. Only in Christ can we find true freedom. Everything else can only give us, at best, apparent freedom that in the end can only put us into some bondage, if not destroy us.

The reason for this is that Christ, as the son of God and the pattern of our humanity, is the fullness of everything that is objectively true, good and beautiful for us. He is also the one that provides us with the power to do what is good for us, since freedom is mainly about freedom to do what is good.

And since freedom is not only about freedom to do what is good but also freedom from whatever evil can hound and tie us down, Christ also perfectly fits that requirement because as our redeemer, Christ liberates us from all evil that can come to us, namely, our natural limitations, our weaknesses, temptations, sins and death itself.

We need to understand this truth of our faith well, because nowadays it is very easy to be confused about where to find freedom and how freedom should be. That’s because all sorts of ideas promoted by all kinds of ideologies and spread by powerful groups have been flooding the world.

We need to promote the real freedom that is offered to us by Christ. We have to preach about it, in season and out of season, and explain it thoroughly, using arguments that are adapted to the different mentalities and cultures of the people.

We need to make everyone understand that true freedom broadens our mind, expands our heart so as to accommodate everyone the way he is, without forgetting how he ought to be, as well as everything else in life. True freedom is what love is all about.

Renten steigen zum 1. Juli 2024
