Geraldine Jennings

Newbie Irish-British-Filipino actress Geraldine Jennings stated that she is fully committed to pursuing a career in the Philippine showbiz industry after obtaining her college degree in London. However, that's two years away. She is determined to graduate from the University of London with a degree in economics and finance.

During a mini press conference in Timog, Quezon City, Geraldine recently expressed her excitement about her debut film, "La Isla Babuyan," which is now in post-production.

"La Isla Babuyan" tells the story of Anastassia (Geraldine), a young half-Filipina and half-European girl who comes to the Philippines to be with her Filipino mother, Rose (Lotlot De Leon).

Anastasia meets and falls in love with the handsome Jordan (Jameson Blake), who is the scion and heir of a wealthy family. But the conflict begins when Jordan's stepmother (Nathalie Hart) cannot accept Anastassia and will do everything to keep them apart.

Jessie Vilabrille wrote the screenplay from a story he conceptualized with Leo Dominguez and Bam Salvani. Dennis Evangelista line-produced it, and Abdel Langit directed it.

“La Isla Babuyan” is inspired by director Bigas Luna’s film “Jamon, Jamon,” starring Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem (1992).

On working with Jameson, Geraldine said: “Very professional naman si Jameson. I am an actor, he is an actor, and he was super helpful to me. He was very comfortable to work with. That’s part of the job.

“He was a very good actor and a very nice person. I was really surprised at how willing he was to help. He was very mabait and very easy to talk to. I was very comfortable working with him," said the Irish-British-Filipino talent.

Aside from her film career, Geraldine is set on entering a national beauty pageant.

Of all the existing beauty pageants nationwide, Geraldine said she's interested in Miss World Philippines.

“I want to start with Miss World, not Miss Universe right away. I don’t just want to be known as beautiful. I want to show my talent," she said. The stunning 5'8" woman stated that she is willing to undergo rigorous training for the competition.

Geraldine also shared about her upcoming songs under Star Music.

“I also have two upcoming songs, ‘Pwede Ba?’ and ‘Don’t Go,’ written by Viktoria (Agbayani). She gave me the song, Don’t Go, and I will add a remix to make it upbeat for my generation. Viktoria is also under the LBD (Management) of (the late) Leo Dominguez. I miss Leo so much. I also have an original song that’s upcoming," she said.

Geraldine added: "At a young age, I loved singing. My mom enrolled me in singing and guitar classes. I just loved it. I studied it in Los Angeles. And I grew to love the craft. Finally, I got the chance to do it. It's my passion. I love the arts."

On her showbiz influences, Geraldine said: "While I was growing up, it was Miley Cyrus. I love her music. 'Party In The USA' was my favorite. I still love her now. Her new album 'Flowers.' She's my inspiration musical-wise. Right now, Dua Lipa. I love her style. I love how she sings and how she performs. Acting-wise, I will have to say Gal Gadot. She's my favorite in 'Wonder Woman,' 'Red Notice.' Also, Margot Robbie. She is amazing in 'Barbie,' very versatile. Those are my influences."

When she moved to the United Kingdom in 2009, she returned to the Philippines thrice a year during vacation. She has a second home in Manila.

Geraldine's mom is Gina Cariaga, a Filipino housewife and businesswoman from Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte, and her father is Frank Jennings, a Northern Irish international businessman.

Her mom's side comes from politics and teaching. Her mom's grandfather, Nicasio Cariaga, was the police chief and a teacher who graduated from the Philippine Normal University.

Geraldine is the second child among three equally talented sisters. She also loves equestriansports, polo, clay pigeon shooting, and. fitness and exercise. "I love pilates, indoor cycling, spinning, and running."

MANILA, Philippines — Since many Filipinos love beauty pageants, many were dismayed after Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat announced that Miss Universe 2018 will not be held at the Philippines.
But a report from Missosology will surely brighten pageant-loving people in the country as the website recently announce that the 47th Miss Intercontinental will be held in the country on January 2019.
“IT'S OFFICIAL! The 47th Miss Intercontinental beauty pageant will be held in the beautiful Philippines on January 2019. The competition is sponsored by a team from Japan,” the website wrote.
“Veronica Salas Vallejo of Mexico will be crowning her succesor in Manila. More details to be revealed soon only here on Missosology,” it added.

The Philippines came so close to winning the said pageant twice, first, when Christi McGarry won as first runner-up in 2015, and when Katarina Rodriguez won as 1st runner-up last year in Egypt.
Filipino-Australian and education advocate Karen Gallman will try to win the country’s first Miss Intercontinental title on the 47th edition of the pageant, in front of her countrymen.
Established in Aruba in 1973, Miss Intercontinental is considered as among the world’s major beauty contests in which one representative from each continent is chosen to be on the top five, which will later on compete for the grand title.

Pia Wurtzbach: No such thing as beauty pageant jinx

MANILA, Philippines — There are rumors in social media that Miss Philippines Rachel Peters only reached top 10 at the 2017 Miss Universe pageant because Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach from the Philippines was a judge.
This also reportedly happened to Philippines’ Mary Jean “MJ” Lastimosa during the Miss Universe pageant in 2015. MJ was Miss Universe Philippines 2014. Like Peters, Lastimosa also allegedly did not advance from the top 10 as Filipino boxing champ Manny Pacquiao was in the judges’ panel.

Before Miss Universe, netizens have observed another pattern: Mariel de Leon, Philippines’ representative for Miss International 2017, was unplaced because the reigning country then was Philippines, as represented by Miss International 2016 Kylie Verzosa.

According to pageant observers, once the Philippines wins in Miss International, the following year, as the reigning country, the nation’s bet will be “unplaced” in the pageant.
For Wurtzbach, superstitions like these have no solid basis.
“I don’t think so. I don’t think that they would allow you to join if you’re already destined to not get the crown. I don’t think pageants would do that. That’s not really fair. And I don’t think there’s a curse either or there’s a jinx,” Pia told Philstar.com in a recent interview during her launch as endorser of mineral water brand Aquafina.

For Pia, nobody and nothing should be blamed whenever Miss Philippines loses.
“I think it just so happened that you know, we haven’t seen a back-to-back yet at Miss Universe. But I don’t think that it has anything to do with the competition or the judges or the girl, our representative,” Pia further explained

Miss Universe 2017 Pageant Takes on New Format

By: , Manila Bulletin

The announcement of the Top 16 semifinalists for the Miss Universe 2017 beauty pageant takes a new twist during the finals in Las Vegas, Nevada on Nov. 26 (Nov. 27 in Manila).
“For the first cut, three candidates from each region will be selected based on scores plus one spot for the girl with the most votes in that region,” said Norman Tinio, of normannorman.com, a popular blog on international and local beauty pageants, during an interview in Parañaque City on Thursday night.

Tinio said: “And then, there will be four remaining Wild Card spots from around the world.”
“So there will be four girls from the Americas, four girls from Europe, four from girls from Asia, Africa and Pacific; and four wild cards. A total of 16 semi-finalists,” said Tinio.
While fan votes will help advance a candidate to the Top 16, unconfirmed reports said that the 92 candidates will choose among themselves a girl who will also join the Top 16 semifinalists.
The worldwide fan voting for the Miss Universe 2017 pageant will end on Nov. 25, one day before the finals.
In high spirits
Rodgil Flores, head of the Kagandahang Flores beauty camp which trained Miss Philippines Rachel Peters, will fly to Las Vegas to catch the Miss Universe pageant on Sunday, Nov. 26. Flores will be accompanied by his cousin Gio Flores.
Also, Miss Universe 2015 Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach and mentor Jonas Gaffud of the Aces and Queens beauty camp have left for Las Vegas for the Miss Universe contest.
“On our way to Las Vegas! Excited for Miss Universe 2017,” said Gaffud as he shared a picture with Wurtzbach at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 2 in Parañaque City on Thursday.
Wurtzbach has been chosen as one of the telecast judges in this year’s pageant.
Flores said Peters is in high spirits as the pageant date approaches despite the controversy on social media that leaked her reported evening gown for the finals of the Miss Universe contest.
Reacting to the design of the evening gown that leaked, Flores said: “She brought six gowns for the Miss Universe contest. We have already chosen which gown she will wear in the finale.”
He refused to confirm if the evening gown that went viral was for the finale. “Abangan na lang po nila. Ilang araw na lang naman.” (Let’s just wait for the finals).
Peters slammed the uploader of her evening gown on the Internet.
“To whoever leaked pictures of my evening gown, thank you for teaching me a lesson about being more careful who you trust.
“Not sure what your intentions were but no matter what, you’re not dragging me down.
“At the end of the day, it’s not about the dress you wear, how you walk or even the elements of surprise. What’s important is that you are kind and true to yourself… that’s when a girl truly shines!” said Peters.
It has been a tradition for the management of the Bb. Pilipinas beauty contest not to reveal the outfits of their competing delegates to international pageants until the finals night.
Flores said he texted Peters after the preliminary competitions.
“I congratulated her for her wonderful performance. Basta happy s’ya at happy kami kasi andun ‘yung control, very queenly s’ya,” said Flores. (I’m happy and we’re happy (during the preliminaries) because the control is there, she’s very queenly).
Flores said that based on the performance of Peters in the preliminaries, “she deserves a spot in the Top 16.”
Sought to give his final advice to Peters, Flores said: “Just stay focus. This is it! Ang lapit-lapit na! You worked so hard for the past years, eto na yung culminating night.”
Flores also said the Bicolana beauty queen is not the type of person who will back out because of pressure.
“Gagalingan pa n’ya lalo kasi na-inspire s’ya dun sa comments and reviews sa prelims n’ya which is outstanding naman yung performance n’ya. At saka boto lang po kayo for Rachel,” said Flores. (She will do her best in the finals because she was inspired by the positive reviews and comments she got during the preliminaries which is outstanding. Let’s continue to vote for Rachel).
