As someone who was born and raised in the Philippines, I can say with confidence that Filipino culture is indeed uniqueEven though other cultures have influenced us, we have managed to retain our own identityWhat makes us different from other cultures is our strong sense of family and community

We are always willing to help our extended family and our neighborsWe also have a strong sense of pride in our culture and our historyWe are known for our resilience , our ability to persevere in the face of adversity. I believe that these qualities make us uniquely Filipino. And even though we may sometimes be divided by politics or religion, at the end of the day, we are all united by our love for our country and our people.

If I’m not out there doing Cupid’s work, I’m here on Quora answering questions about love, marriage, relationships, and everything in between.

Showing respect to one’s culture starts within oneself and learning the perfect balance between curiosity and appreciation.

If you want to show respect to the Filipino culture, here are some things that could help you out:

Always pay respect to the elders

Don’t make fun of their traditions and beliefs, even though it might seem highly superstitious

And most importantly, just have fun during your stay!

Filipinos are very understanding people. We don’t take much offense when foreigners do some honest mistakes around our culture, as long as it is not necessarily highly insulting or derogatory in any way.

For those who've lived in the Philippines, what are some things...

outsiders don't understand about Filipino culture?

By: Selwyn Clyde M. Alojipan
 ·

Filipinos like to be inclusive. If they see a stranger, they will say hello and ask him to eat with them or ask him questions where he’s from and where he’s going. Then they’ll try to help him with tips and directions. They will feel happy that their small community has been visited by a foreigner who had to come so far to see their place.

A foreigner with Filipino roots, one who has spent some time in the country, knows how to speak a few words in the local language or dialect, or has a Filipino spouse is automatically considered an “honorary Filipino.”

Any celebrity or VIP with Filipino ancestry who has made a successful career abroad will be the target of the phenomenon known as “Filipino Pride” or “Pinoy Pride” in which Filipinos from all over the globe and in the country will feel proud of him for being a part of the global Filipino community and for enhancing the Filipino identity.

People with Filipino ancestry who grew up overseas without learning about Filipino culture and who may have considered themselves Americans, Australians, Canadians, British, French, Italian, etc., will be curious why they are being automatically included in this all-inclusive and ever-growing Filipino community.

They don’t understand why they automatically belong to a club that they may not have known about in their entire lives. It will take them some time of living in the Philippines or among a group of Filipino expats abroad to get an inkling why they are considered members of a vast extended family.

There’s no particular reason why this happens. Filipinos just like to belong in a group and like expanding the size of that group. They will feel sad if a person goes away for a while and they will be happy if they see that person again. That’s just how it is among Filipinos.

SB19 brings fresh twist to this year’s Bb. Pilipinas theme song

by Robert Requintina, Manila Bulletin

With the ever changing times, music has also evolved in different forms to cater to the taste of the modern generation. Today, original pinoy music or OPM has produced diverse sounds, yielding a new type of tune, Pinoy Pop or PPOP for short.

Consistent to its cause of shining a light on the beauty and diversity of Filipino culture, Binibining Pilipinas recognizes how impactful music can be, and has endeavored to banner Pinoy talent in any way that it can. That is why for this year, the prestigious pageant’s official theme song was given the PPOP revamp with the help of the country’s latest music pride – SB19.

SB19’s modern pop rendition of the classic Bb. Pilipinas theme song entitled “Win Your Heart” encapsulates the spirit of the pageant. With its beat and lyrics, it proudly communicates the uniqueness of the Filipina – one who exudes beauty, intelligence, grace and strength.

“Bb. Pilipinas has always been on a mission to empower Filipinos across the international stage, and one of our great qualities as a Filipino is our talent in creating art, such as music. We recognize the importance of featuring our local talents, such as SB19, that is why we hope that with this collaboration, we can show the world that not only are Filipinos intelligent, passionate, and driven, we are also immensely talented,” Irene Jose, Binibining Pilipinas Charities Inc. trustee said.

SB19 will serenade the Bb. Pilipinas stage as the main performers of the pageant’s Grand Coronation Night. But, SB19 isn’t be the only PPOP act to take part in the slew of Bb. Pilipinas activities. Other rising PPOP groups such as DIONE, First. One, 4th Impact, and ALAMAT   made their presence felt with their energetic performances at the Talent Competition, Press Presentation, and the glamorous Fashion Show.

To watch the Lyric video of ‘Win Your Heart,’ please click this link: https://youtu.be/ofeFrctMJeM. The official music video of the said theme song will also be uploaded on the Bb. Pilipinas YouTube page soon, so stay tuned!

There are undoubtedly many things that make us Filipinos unique. For example, our culture is steeped in tradition and family values.

We are also known for being friendly and hospitable people. But I think the thing that makes us most unique is our resilience[1] in the face of difficult circumstances.

Despite facing many challenges throughout history, we have always overcome them. We are a nation of survivors, which makes us so strong. We never give up, no matter how hard things get. This fighting spirit is what unites us as a people, and it's what makes us unique. So whatever challenge life throws at you, remember that you are not alone – Filipinos have been through worse, and we have come out stronger. We are a proud people, and we will overcome anything that comes our way! Mabuhay ang Pilipinas!
