The search for the next Filipina Miss Universe officially kicked off as 51 candidates vying for the Miss Universe Philippines 2026 crown were formally presented yesterday at the Grand Ballroom of City of Dreams Manila.
Wearing coordinated pink and red ensembles to reflect the period between Valentine’s Day and Chinese New Year, the candidates made their first collective appearance before members of the media, pageant partners, and fans.

Prior to the indoor presentation, the delegates kicked off the festivities with a parade around the SM Mall of Asia complex, delighting pageant followers who gathered for an early glimpse of this year’s aspirants.
Miss Universe Philippines officials also announced key updates for the 2026 edition, including the confirmation of Misamis Occidental as the official host province and local government partner. Pangasinan was also announced as the venue for the 2026 national costume competition.
New selection format
Miss Universe Philippines Vice President Voltaire Tayag said the organization is introducing a revamped selection process to increase transparency and public participation throughout the competition.“We are introducing a new selection format that is intended to rally public support for the delegates, while also showcasing transparency every step of the way,” Tayag said. “We are bringing the journey closer to Filipinos by allowing them to have a significant say in every stage of the pageant up to the semifinals.”
Under the new system, major preliminary segments - including the evening gown, swimsuit, and closed-door interview - will be filmed and recorded in March. These materials will then be released weekly as part of a multi-round public voting process.
Starting April 5, the competition will roll out its first preliminary week with the evening gown segment, marking an earlier and more sustained evaluation period for the candidates.

At the end of each voting period, a select number of delegates will advance to the next round, beginning with the swimsuit segment. Advancement will be determined through a combination of public votes via Maya app and selections made by the judging panel.
Candidates who do not advance through public voting will continue to participate in official events and provincial tours throughout April. Tayag stressed that delegates still have chances to move forward through selection panel choices, brand awards, and wildcard slots to be announced during the finals.
A new interactive feature will also be introduced during coronation night, allowing registered viewers to vote in real time as the candidates take the stage.
“Every moment matters. Every vote counts,” Tayag said. “Every stage of the competition is an opportunity to showcase your best.”
Showdown of pageant veterans
This year’s competition is also shaping up to be a "puksaan" with several seasoned pageant veterans joining the roster.
Among the candidates are Ysabella Ysmael of Taguig City, MUPH 2020 first runner-up; Apriel Smith of Cebu City, MUPH 2020 Top 16 finalist; Miss Earth-Water titleholders Bea Millan-Windorski of La Union and Roxie Baeyens of Baguio City; Nicole Borromeo, who finished as third runner-up at Miss International 2023; Justine Felizarta of Manila, first runner-up at Miss Tourism World 2023; Ashley Subijano of Luisiana, Laguna, a Miss Eco International 2023 semifinalist; and Imelda Schweighart of Kalibo, Aklan, a resigned former Miss Philippines-Earth 2016.

The grand coronation night of Miss World Philippines will be held on Feb. 3 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena, with the organization officially presenting its 24 candidates to the media at the Golden Ballroom of Okada Manila on Jan. 16.

In his opening remarks, Miss World Philippines national director Arnold L. Vegafria expressed hope that the country's second blue crown is within reach, following Megan Young's win in 2013. He noted that last year's representative, Krishnah Gravidez, came close after being named Miss World Asia 2025 at the 72nd Miss World pageant held in Telangana, India.
"Krishnah set the bar high with her near-finish last year, but we pray that we remain consistent with our winning track record," he noted.
Aside from the main winner, the Feb. 3 pageant will also crown the candidates who will represent the Philippines in Universal Woman 2026 and Miss Global 2026.
This year's official candidates are the following:
1. Nikki Malabuyoc Lorzano - Batangas
2. Carolyn Kean Tuquero - Bauan, Batangas

11. Zia Ainhize Arboleda - Laguna
12. Anne De Mesa - Manila

21. Olivia Grace Reilly - Sultan Kudarat
22. Cherline Dalangin - Valenzuela
23. Ansha Lichelle Jones - Zamboanga City
24. Roveelaine Eve Castillo - Zamboanga Peninsula

At the event, three candidates were named the Darling of the Press based on their beauty, personality, and stage presence. They are: Miss Davao Region Jayvee Lyn Lorejo, Miss Ifugao Valerie West, and Miss FilCom UK Margarethe Romano.
The candidates will now proceed to a series of fast-track competitions, including Top Model, Talent, Sports Challenge, Multimedia Challenge, and Head-to-Head Challenge. This will all culminate in a Charity Gala Night scheduled on Jan. 29 at the Okada Manila Grand Ballroom.
Vegafria noted that one of its accomplishments this year was acquiring more franchise partners. This led to the participation of Filipino communities in Hawaii, New York, Singapore, the United Kingdom, as well as in Davao City, Ifugao Province, Iligan City, and Sultan Kudarat.

"This is part of our organization's push for inclusivity and our legacy of promoting local tourism. I always say pageantry is the best and cheapest platform to promote our tourism industry. If the government will not do anything to promote, then we will take the initiative ourselves because we love our country," he stressed.

Miss Grand Philippines 2025 Emma Mary Tiglao left Manila yesterday and has just landed in Bangkok to begin her journey for the Miss Grand International 2025 crown, set for Oct. 18 in the Thai capital. With reigning queen CJ Opiaza holding the title, all eyes are now on Emma as she attempts to deliver a back-to-back victory for the country in the pageant.
At her send-off media conference, Tiglao drew from her experience as a newscaster and TV host to explain how she intends to approach the competition.
"Being a newscaster is really like the people trust you to give information to them. And your words really matter and they’re really powerful," she said. "Because you’re doing it live, you need to be prepared, you need to review, research. You cannot just trust what’s in the script because sometimes there are mistakes. You need to be a storyteller. And that’s what I’ll bring with me on the Grand International stage, the discipline to study hard and be careful with my words, because words can hurt or they can inspire. And it’s always better if we inspire people."
Emma said she is aware that Thailand has been a lucky ground for Filipinos this year. Early in 2025, CJ Opiaza assumed the Miss Grand International title, and just this week, Kirk Bondad brought home the Mister International crown.
"I think we can do it again because I’m really doing my best,’ the beauty from Pampanga said with optimism. ‘Last week, I was already in Thailand meeting people, mingling with them, showing that we are ready and open to collaborate. There are still surprises we are preparing with Thai personalities, so abangan."
This will not be Emma’s first time competing internationally. She represented the Philippines at the Miss Intercontinental 2019 pageant. But she believes she has grown significantly since then.
"Emma now is the evolved version with all the experiences and wisdom I gained,’ she said. "After Miss Intercontinental, I became a news anchor and host. I learned so much from that, and all those experiences have shaped me into who I am today. This is the Emma who will step on the Grand stage."

With all the issues facing the Philippines today, she advised young Filipinas not to be afraid to speak out. ‘Some people stay quiet because they fear criticism, but my advice is to stay true to your core. Don’t let others dictate what you want. You know yourself better. You know the truth. Don’t let anyone be the captain of your ship," she said.
Asked what makes her “grand,” the news anchor gave a thoughtful acronym: ‘G is for growth, because I’ve seen myself grow. R is for reality, acknowledging all the experiences I’ve been through. O is for opportunity, the chance to go for a back-to-back win. W is for the way forward. I believe all of this makes me grand."
With weeks to go before coronation night, Tiglao is keeping her preparations strong - from working with her team of designers led by Patrick Isorena to rehearsing for her closed-door interview with pageant president Nawat Itsaragrisil.
"I’m excited and nervous for the closed-door interview," she admitted. ‘That’s the moment I can really share my story. I hope to show Mr. Nawat and the organization the genuine Emma."
As she waved goodbye to Filipino fans at the airport on Sept. 29, Emma promised to fight for the crown.
"To my fans, to my friends, my Emmazonas family, my team ....maraming maraming salamat po sa inyong lahat. I can see your love, your support. Yung iba nga parang natataranta kapag nauungusan tayo ng ibang country sa likes. Pero maraming, maraming salamat. As long as you're there, as long as I can feel your support, ilalaban natin ito ng buong buo, ilalaban natin ng grand ito (To my fans, my friends, my Emmazonas family, my tea: thank you so much to all of you.) I can see your love and your support. Some even start to panic when other countries overtake us in likes. But thank you, thank you so much. As long as you are there, as long as I can feel your support, I will fight for this with everything I have. I will fight for this grandly)," said Emma.
