The jeepney is where it all happens. You squish yourself between total strangers everyday. No social distancing. Pure invasion of your so-called personal space. You can smell each other there. Then, you have to be patient with the endless stops along the route and the traffic jams. You need to be kind and understanding by handing over the payment of the persons near the exit to the driver and back (for the change). You need to shout “para!” (stop) in case the driver did not hear the soft voice of the passenger near the exit.

Even some houses are squished together so next-door neighbors know the troubles of each other which they can easily hear through the thin walls that separate them. “I know what happened yesterday” smiles when you see each other the next day. Chitchats are common in the neighborhood store called sari-sari.

A regular Church goer will be taught to love God with your whole heart, mind and soul and then to love your neighbor as yourself. Even love your enemies!

Families, when they can afford, celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, graduation, baptismals, job promotions, baby showers, baby’s gender reveal, etc. Eating together is bonding time. We are the only people who eat as much as 6 times a day!

However, we do have a mean shadow and it is the exact opposite of all of those traits. So, be gentle as doves but be wise as serpents. Especially when ìt comes to money.

In the Philippines, nobody gets jailed/arrested for not paying personal loans without collateral and promissory note. So, be very very careful in lending money to so-called friends. Only lend money which you can afford to lose, i.e. not be paid back no matter how hard you try to collect.

If you ask those non-Filipino people who spend years living in the Philippines, you’ll be surprise why their answers can be a little different. It can be easy for me to say YES, but I wan’t to be realistic as well.

In general, yes, Filipinos are warm, approachable, generous and hospitable. They care more about what others think or say, which influences the social behavior so behaving as such (friendly, warm, being fun) makes others think of us in a positive way, and in turn has positive effect on our self steem or something. This is also why Filipinos in general hate confrontations.

I don’t want to brag, but Filipino have a naturally caring and sympathetic mindset, thus they’re hospitable. I can rate that 8 out of 10. You can noticed this overseas when they reach out to each other to help a Filipino in need. Most of the time its happening.

However, let me remind you that Filipinos are fierce. Criticise them and all hell will break loose. The “very loving, huggable, patient, fun, understanding, and warm demeanour” will quickly morph into a defensive snarling creature. Its something like this, you can’t make a criticism about us Filipinos, but we can about you.

The problem with Filipinos is we’re overprotective. Not of our culture, of our identity, of our resources – but of our pride. We have so much pride, we even made a tagline out of it #PinoyPride. We’ve become overly sensitive, easily offended at the slightest of criticisms that we end up refusing not to better ourselves because we’d rather be right and win an argument, than admit to be wrong and improve.

Great music, fun memories at GDay festivities

 

Thousands gathered over the weekend for fun and exciting activities Globe held for its highly anticipated "917 #ExtraGDayEveryday," the biggest GDay celebration yet.

Events were held at the Circuit Events Ground Makati and the Enchanted Kingdom in Sta. Rosa City on September 17 or "917 day," without adverse incident except for apparent attempts to jam mobile signals at both venues.

"Our 917 GDay this year marked the first time we had many on-ground events, and we are glad that our customers went out to participate in them. We really wanted to pursue face to face events which we have been missing since the pandemic. We are only too happy that our customers found time to enjoy the festivities," said Jerome Patalud, head of Globe Rewards.

The GMusic Fest drew thousands of spectators at Circuit Events Ground Makati for a day of great music and fun at experiential booths, bringing home Globe freebies along with new memories.

Over 6,000 spectators came for the half-day event, staying throughout the show to enjoy the lineup of world-class artists Globe brought together to regale its valued customers.

Enjoying the GMusic Fest was Kathlyn Guinto, a Globe customer for 15 years now. On Twitter, she raved about seeing Thai singer Phum Viphurit and the "queens" from Drag Race Philippines.

"It was my first time watching Phum Viphurit perform live. Finally! WOW. WOW. WOW.... Thank you for bringing them here, Globe!" she said in her post.

G Music Fest also featured K-Pop group bugAboo, whose G Music Fest appearance was their first time performing live in the Philippines, and top Filipino acts such as KAIA, Matthaios, The Juans, Unique Salonga, and I Belong to the Zoo.

Festival goers were also safely ferried in and out of the venue through free rides on GET electric buses deployed for the event.

Philippine Travel Mart Exhibition

The provincial government through the Tourism Office joins the Philippine Travel Mart together with the other provinces in the Region sponsored by the Department of Tourism at SMX Convention Center from August 30-Sept.1, 2019.  This is the longest-running travel trade exhibition in the Philippines and Comval is part of the highlighted pavilion being next year's dive and climb caravan feature on the 2020 Visit Davao Summer Fun.
