PDP-Laban says Trillanes' Accusations are Getting Ridiculous

PRESS RELEASE
29 April 2016

PDP-Laban says Trillanes’ accusations are getting ridiculous by the day, calls him “inventor of the week”

“We won’t be surprised if next week, Mayor Duterte will be accused of hiding trillions of pesos," PDP-Laban spokesperson Atty. Paola Alvarez said regarding the accusations hurled by Senator Antonio Trillanes IV against her political party’s presidential bet, Davao City Mayor Rodrigo “Rody” Duterte.

“This is getting ridiculous by the day. Two days ago, Sen. Trillanes accused Mayor Duterte of having an undeclared P211 Million bank account. Today, he said the mayor’s accounts had P2.4 Billion worth of transactions. What’s next, Mayor Duterte is behind the $81 Million Bangladeshi bank heist? This is already the height of absurdity," Alvarez said.

"Sen. Trillanes should be voted 'inventor of the week'. He is becoming more of an inventor than a senator,” Alvarez added, reiterating the challenge made by Duterte for Trillanes to sign an affidavit before the tough-talking mayor opens his bank accounts.

“We call on Sen. Trillanes to execute an affidavit and reveal where and when he got his information and why he released it. Mayor Duterte already committed to open his bank accounts as long as Sen. Trillanes signs an affidavit. It’s now in his hands. If the senator is confident of his information, he wouldn’t mind signing his name to a legal document to back up his claim,” Alvarez said.

Alvarez also slammed the rivals of Mayor Duterte, whom she said have found it fashionable nowadays to sign bank waivers.

“When Mayor Duterte and Senator Alan Peter Cayetano signed a bank waiver and challenged their rivals to do the same, no single candidate heeded their call. Now that Mayor Duterte is leading the presidential election and is on the brink of victory, they not only joined Sen. Trillanes’ ridiculous accusations, they are now signing bank waivers left and right. It is downright hypocritical,” she said.

Alvarez asked Duterte’s supporters not to be distracted from making the Duterte-Cayetano win in the election and achieving real change. She said that in the coming days leading to the elections, her group expects more accusations will be thrown against their standard-bearer.

"As the enemies of change become more desperate, we expect the attacks to become more vicious. We are also afraid that this will be a prelude to a possible massive election cheating. Thus, we call on the supporters of the Duterte-Cayetano tandem and the general public to exercise extreme vigilance amid the confusion and lies being peddled by groups with the intention to deprive the people of their rightful choice this coming election," Alvarez concluded.

PRESS RELEASE
19 April 2016

Duterte takes clear lead in latest Pulse survey, Cayetano picks up pace, increases lead in Mindanao

Presidential candidate and Davao City Mayor Rodrigo "Rody" Duterte once again topped Pulse Asia's latest voters' preference survey, surging ahead of Senator Grace Poe by a whopping seven percentage points.

The survey was commissioned by ABS-CBN and was conducted from April 5 to 10. It covered 4,000 registered voters nationwide, with an error margin of plus minus 1.5 percent. Duterte established a clear lead with 32 percent, which is a 2-point increase from his previous ratings in the March 29-April 3 survey.

Poe, meanwhile, trailed behind with only 25 percent. She was followed by Vice President Jejomar Binay with 20 percent and Liberal Party standard-bearer Mar Roxas, who got 18 percent.

The tough-talking mayor was the top choice among all voting classes and remains to be the number one candidate in Mindanao, where he got 58 percent or more than half of the respondents’ total votes.

Duterte’s campaign team said while it is humbled by the latest survey results, it will continue to reach out to more voters. “We need to convert and convince others that the path to real change is through the unparalleled and decisive leadership that Mayor Duterte has been providing us," said Duterte's national campaign manager Leoncio Evasco Jr.

Cayetano gains momentum

Meanwhile, Duterte’s running mate, Senate Majority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano, also enjoyed an increased rating compared to the previous Pulse Asia survey.

The senator’s numbers increased by 2 percentage points, from 15 percent in the March 29-April 3 survey to 17 percent in the April 5-10 survey. He also topped the survey in Mindanao, increasing his lead with 32 percent of respondents choosing him as their vice presidential bet.

Political analysts weighing in on the May polls claim that Cayetano’s numbers could still improve, especially following his outstanding performance during the first vice presidential debate organized by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) held last April 10. #

PRESS RELEASE
22 March 2016

A department solely dedicated to address the concerns of small fishers and protect the country's marine and aquatic resources.

This is one of the latest "bold solutions" unveiled by the tandem of Davao City Mayor Rodrigo "Rody" Duterte and Senate Majority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano during their "Ronda Serye" listening tour with fishermen in Ormoc City on Tuesday.

Duterte and Cayetano said that, if elected, they will create a Department of Fisheries separate from the Department of Agriculture (DA) to give the fishery sector in the country a more focused attention and reduce red tape which greatly contributes to corruption.

Cayetano said that the present DA is huge, prone to corruption and unmanageable. The senator also said that for a country surrounded by water, proper management of aquatic resources should be a priority, both for food security and livelihood improvement.

"Our plan to create a department of fisheries is an acknowledgment that the
fishery sector has distinct problems and issues apart from land-based farming. It is also part of our effort to curb corruption sourced from unnecessary bureaucracy," Cayetano explained.

Cayetano said that they will also expand available credit instruments for fisherfolk to provide them the needed capital to sustain their livelihood and protect them from 5-6 loan sharks.

The vice-presidential candidate also vowed to ensure the fishermen's safe working conditions, healthcare benefits and seriously study providing fixed wages to handline fishermen.

"Through bold solutions based on strong leadership, Mayor Duterte and I will end the disorder and corruption in the fisheries sector and ensure a better future for our fisherfolk communities," Cayetano concluded.
