Celebrating Women’s month, the office of Senator Pia gave aid to women and bolstered the health sector in Antipolo City.

“As barangay health worker po na nakatanggap po ng pinansyal, malaking bagay po ito para sa amin. Salamat po sa patuloy na kalinga sa BSW [Barangay Health Worker],” said Analiza Cabahug, one of the 500 beneficiaries from the event in Antipolo City.

As a health worker, Analiza is responsible for ensuring that the children in their community receive vitamins on time and monitor their height and weight. The aid she received is vital and helpful to her work, she said.

Cedie Ampol, another barangay health worker in Antipolo City, said the assistance will help her start up a sari-sari store.

The recent disbursement activity was done in partnership with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) through its Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program.

AICS aims to provide timely and vital support to people in a difficult situation, aiding their recovery during challenging times.

The recent disbursement activity in Antipolo City and Rizal province were made successful due to the extended efforts and participation of Rizal Province Governor Nina Ynares, Antipolo City Mayor Jun Ynares, Councilor Susan Say, and Former Mayor Andrea "Andeng" Ynares.

This is not the first time the sibling senators have reached Antipolo City and Rizal province. Last month, more than 2,000 residents in Rizal Province also received vital aid to boost their livelihood.###

Davao de Oro: Taking Women to the next level

Davao de Oro Province-- In a fast changing world, it’s the women who take the lead. The role of women goes beyond household chores. Today, we see them as prime movers of change in different areas, be it in academe, legislation, politics or commerce.

In celebration to the National Women’s Day in the Philippines, the province of Davao de Oro through the Provincial Women’s Development Council (PWDC) honors the role of women in the province and envisions their progress in the next three years.

The province of Davao de Oro being notable to be rich in indigenous cultures will continue to unleash the hidden gifts of each IP Group.

As key towards developing and improving the lives of its constituents, the golden province conforms to the policies and mandates concerning Women Empowerment through the implementation of the Women Development Program. This program subscribes to the goal of uplifting and redefining women in Davao de Oro. It promotes equal rights to economic resources, makes public services widely accessible, provides enabling technologies to ease their nature of work and allows women to be competitive and make their own living.

The Provincial Women Development Council has engaged to thousands of women across the province through its socio-economic programs.

These interventions narrowed the gap between the government and its people, it allowed women from Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas to get reached by delivering government services through livelihood, technical and vocational training, caravans, making them active participants in decision making for more sound policies and linking them to institutions to further hone their skills.

Today, Davao de Oro women get featured both locally and globally. This was made possible through the partnership with NGA’s (National Government Agencies), non-government organizations and private sectors. By the full support of the province, products from our women farmers and fisher-folks, muslim, IP’s and all-marginalized women in every municipality who engaged in livelihood trainings starts to rack-up beyond its local market.

These successful product-market linkages are just tidbits of the bundles of success stories of the women of Davao de Oro.

The PWDC was spearheaded by Ms. Sholai Lim, who was awarded as one of the Outstanding Woman Business Leader by the 8th Mindanao Business Leaders and Entrepreneur Awards, she is also the ambassador of the International Women Peace Group (IWPG) was regarded by Philippine National Police General Manuel S. Garlaen as one of 2018’s PNP Region XI Six Most Outstanding Women Leader in Davao Region and was elected as Vice President for Mindanao by the Philippine Federation of Local Councils of Women.

Indeed, there will be no greater force than a group of women who are all determined to rise, no challenges too hard to conquer for women whose eyes are fixed on the goal - veer from the usual and conquer the peak.

Women can be achievers

PNPA topnotcher: Women can be achievers

 6  49 googleplus2  0
Cadet Maysy Cataquiz, the only woman in the Top 10 of the Philippine National Police Academy Class Masidlak of 2017, speaks during a press conference at Camp Crame yesterday. Joining her are cadets Ian Rey Diolanto, Abdulcahar Armama, Juan Paulo Porciuncula, Midzfar Hamis Omar, valedictorian Macdum Enca, Elcid Layug, Harley Glenn Galpo, Michael Daunotan and Michael John Sentinta.  Boy Santos

MANILA, Philippines -  Graduating in the Top 10 of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) Class Masidlak of 2017 is proof enough that women can also be achievers, said Cadet Maysy Cataquiz.
At 23 years old, Cataquiz ranks 10th out of 144 cadets who will march in today’s ceremonies at Camp Mariano Castañeda in Silang, Cavite. Her batch has 22 females.
“I’m proud to have proven that what they do, I can also do,” she said in a press briefing at Camp Crame yesterday. “I’m happy I will be giving an example to women who also want to join the PNPA.”
Entering the PNPA was not her initial goal, as her childhood dream was to become a doctor. She enrolled in electronics engineering at the Southern Luzon State University after realizing that she is good in Math.

Somewhere along the way, she and her brother decided to give PNPA a try – going through the entrance examination and initial screening. She passed the second screening stage but her brother was not as lucky.
Her father urged her to continue and prodded her to endure the physical, emotional and mental challenges at the academy.

Asked if she is currently in a relationship, Cataquiz replied: “I don’t have a cadet boyfriend. It’s not allowed in the academy.”
She added that although she has let go of her childhood dream to help the sick, she can still realize her desire to save lives and help people in need by joining the Bureau of Fire Protection after graduation.
Class Masidlak is topped by 22-year-old Police Cadet Macdum Enca, a native of Cotabato City, who will receive the Presidential Kampilan Award.
He is the fourth child of Hajah Zainab, a public school teacher, and Haji Yacobnor, a businessman.
Enca had wanted to be a part of the Philippine National Police to prove to the public that not all Muslims are terrorists.
“I’m not an extremist. I’m just a good person, just like any other,” Enca told reporters.
Graduating second is Jail Cadet Midzfar Hamis Omar, a Tawi-Tawi native and member of the ethnic group Badjao. He will receive the Vice President Kampilan Award.
Cadet Jan Elcid Layug, who is from Tondo in Manila and son of a police officer, will receive the Secretary of the Interior and Local Government Kampilan Award.
Also in the top 10 are Jail Cadet Juan Paulo Porciuncula, Fire Cadet Harley Glenn Galpo, Police Cadet Michael Daunotan, Police Cadet Ian Rey Diolanto, Police Cadet Abdulcahar Armama and Police Cadet Michael John Sentinta.
The graduates will receive a bachelor’s degree in Public Safety and would enter the service as inspectors. Of the 144 cadets, 98 will join the PNP, 31 the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) and 15 the BFP.
PNP chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa advised the graduates to stay away from corruption and avoid seeking favors from politicians if they want to have a fruitful career.
“I told them not to approach politicians or influential government officials and request to be assigned in their preferred assignments,” he said in a press briefing after meeting the Top 10 graduates of batch 2017, also known as Class Masidlak, in Camp Crame yesterday.
Dela Rosa reminded them that it is better to excel through hard work rather than from seeking the help of influential people in government.
“Don’t get special treatment just because you are the number one in class,” he said.
Telling them that no one can bring money to heaven after death, he reminded them to avoid corrupt practices as these would only taint their careers.
Incidentally, Dela Rosa’s only son is joining the PNPA in May.
Rock dela Rosa, after his father’s nickname Bato, is among 451 applicants who successfully passed the PNPA-Cadet Admission Test 2016 held in 28 test centers nationwide last Oct. 30.
The police chief said he has mixed feelings on the decision of his only son, the youngest of three children, as the young man would surely face strenuous physical and mental challenges during his four years of cadetship.
“I wish him good luck. I’m very proud. But as a father, I also feel nervous. I am not sure if he can survive the training,” Dela Rosa said.
He related that since he is the son of a tricycle driver, he adapted a “no retreat, no return” mental attitude when he trained at the Philippine Military Academy years ago.
This is not the case with his son though.
“He is the son of the chief PNP, so he would have a different psychological outlook,” Dela Rosa said.

Arellano looks to forge title showdown against San Sebastian

ABS-CBN News

Arellano University needs just one victory against De La Salle-College of St. Benilde to advance to the Finals. Josh Albelda, ABS-CBN Sports
MANILA, Philippines – Arellano University will try to book its Finals ticket as it clashes with defending champion De La Salle-College of St. Benilde (CSB) in the stepladder semifinals of the NCAA Season 92 women's volleyball tournament Friday at the Arena in San Juan.
Ensured of a twice-to-beat edge after finishing the eliminations as the second seed, Arellano needs just one victory against the Lady Blazers in their 3:30 p.m. match to advance to the Finals.
A victory for Arellano will put it in a championship showdown against unbeaten San Sebastian College. The Lady Stags clinched an outright Finals berth after sweeping the eliminations, and they also have a thrice-to-beat edge.
Arellano already holds one victory over CSB, having beaten the Lady Blazers 25-21, 25-21, 25-21 when they met in the elimination round last January 11.
Coach Obet Javier said the Lady Chiefs need to play better in order to pull off another win over the defending champions, however.
"We all know they beat us in the stepladder semifinals last year," Javier pointed out. "We need to really play harder to prevent it from happening again this year."
The Lady Blazers kept their title defense alive with a 25-22, 25-20, 25-15 over San Beda in the first phase of the stepladder semifinals.
Although it is facing a twice-to-beat disadvantage, CSB remains confident.
"We're in a familiar place," said CSB coach Macky Cariño, whose players came all the way back from the fourth seed to win their first ever title last season. "I'm optimistic we can come through."
In men's play, defending champion University of Perpetual Help and CSB start their best-of-three title duel as the two face off at 1:30 p.m.
Both games will be telecast live on ABS CBN's Sports and Action Channel 23.
In juniors action, reigning titlist Perpetual Help and Emilio Aguinaldo College collide one final time at 10 a.m. with the winner arranging a finals match with Lyceum of the Philippines University, which swept the eliminations to barge into the finals.
