BY JONATHAN HICAP

SM Entertainment confirmed Sunny’s departure from the company.

Sunny is the niece of Lee Soo-man, the founder of SM Entertainment. Lee Soo-man and SM Entertainment had a conflict earlier this year. Lee sold his stake in SM Entertainment to HYBE Corp.

In an Instagram post, Sunny wrote, “I am writing this because I wanted to say thank you for the 16th anniversary of Girls' Generation's debut.”

“Looking back, there are so many people I'm thankful for over the past 16 years. The precious members who are like different versions of myself, our loving family, staff members who were by our side, and fans who gave us strength just by their existence,” she said.

Sunny expressed gratitude to SM Entertainment for her debut in Girls’ Generation.

“Today, I would like to express my gratitude and greetings to SM Entertainment for helping 19-year-old Lee Soon-kyu debut as Sunny of Girls' Generation,” she said.

She added, “I'd like to thank all the managers who worked so hard during the 16 years of promotions, thank you to all the staff who helped us give positive energy to many people through various stages and contents with good music and good performance.”

“I can't be happier every day because I debuted with Girls' Generation with the members and met Sones,” she said.

According to her, “Now I muster up my courage to see myself in a new environment from a different perspective. It is thanks to the interest and affection of the fans who have been unchanging for a long time and the people who are grateful.”

“No matter what kind of days come, we will continue to move forward with a Sunny-like image of vitality. I will become a Sunny who shares good news in the future,” she said.

Girls’ Generation’s Seohyun, Sooyoung and Tiffany left SM Entertainment in 2017.

Sunny debuted in Girls’ Generation in August 2007.

BY JONATHAN HICAP

The Taguig City government preemptively evacuated 180 families due to continuous heavy rains enhanced by typhoons “Falcon” and “Egay.”

The evacuation was implemented in high risk areas that are prone to landslides and flooding to ensure the residents’ safety.

On July 30, Mayor Lani Cayetano visited the evacuation centers where the families are temporarily taking shelter.

These are the Eusebio Elementary School, Taguig Integrated School, Hagonoy Gym, Napindan Integrated School, Diosdado Macapagal High School, Tenement Elementary School, and Nabua covered court.

Cayetano also visited the landslide area on C5 Road in Barangay Western Bicutan to see the extent of the damage.

Last 28, heavy rains caused a landslide that resulted in a perimeter wall to collapse. No one was hurt from the landslide. A total of 23 families were evacuated and are staying at Nabua covered court.

Cayetano said there is a need to enhance the campaign and programs about disaster preparedness and risk reduction.

She will convene a meeting to assess flooding and landslides, and check the protocol in disaster response and plans for the city government to be more prepared for any event.

‘Eat Bulaga’ surpasses TVJ’s ‘E.A.T.’ in ratings

BY JONATHAN HICAP

The battle for noontime TV show supremacy continued to heat up as the new “Eat Bulaga” surpassed Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto and Joey de Leon’s “E.A.T.” in the ratings.

Based on AGB Nielsen ratings for July 19, “Eat Bulaga” on GMA garnered a rating of 4.12 percent in the Nationwide Urban Television Audience Measurement (NUTAM) compared to TVJ’s “E.A.T.,” which received 3.79 percent on TV5 and “It’s Showtime” with 2.76 percent on A2Z and GTV.

In a statement, the Television and Production Exponents Inc. (TAPE), the producer of the “Eat Bulaga,” expressed excitement over the ratings.

“We are beyond words. Thank you is not enough for our Kapuso. We promise to do better na makapagbigay ng ‘tulong at saya’ para masuklian ang pagmamahal na binibigay ng ating mga viewers to ‘Eat Bulaga,’” it said.

TAPE said the results of the ratings are an anniversary gift for “Eat Bulaga.”

“This is an early anniversary gift for ‘Eat Bulaga.’ Maraming salamat. Ang celebration po ng 44 years ng ‘Eat Bulaga’ ay celebration ng mga kababayan natin na tumangkilik at patuloy na tumatangkilik sa ‘Eat Bulaga’ mula noon hanggang ngayon. Salamat dahil hindi nyo kami binitiwan despite this trying time," it added.

TAPE and TVJ are in a battle over the ownership of the “Eat Bulaga” trademark. TAPE is renewing the registration of “Eat Bulaga” with the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) but Tito, Vic and Joey have earlier applied to register it.

Meanwhile, TVJ and Jeny Ferre filed a complaint against TAPE and GMA Network for alleged copyright infringement and unfair competition before the Marikina Regional Trial Court Branch 273.
