Being one of the province’s economic driver that attracts a big number of tourist visits, Davao de Oro’s tourism wellness loop bounces back from the unfavorable changes brought by the pandemic over the past two (2) years.

Recently, the Provincial Government of Davao de Oro through the PAO-Tourism Division headed by Senior Tourism Officer Christine Dompor, visited some of the tourism destinations of the province together with the Provincial Administrator Fatima Montejo. The team conducted a site inspection to assess and measure possible interventions from the provincial government to further intensify the service quality offered by the wellness loop.

The team visited ten (10) tourism facilities on Saturday (August 6, 2022): Bilawa Hot Waterfalls in Brgy. Mainit and Pagkokorowan Gaw Bukanan in Maco, Lake Leonard (Danao) Aqua Eco Park in Brgy. New Leyte, Maco, Tambo Viewdeck+Cafe, Tagbibinta Falls, Maragusan, Maragusan Eco Solid Waste Management Park, Pyalitan Falls, Maragusan, Mt. Patong Sea of Clouds, Angel Farm and Flower Garden, and De Oro Suites in Maragusan.

In Barangay Mainit, Maco, local officials led by Brgy. Captain Michelle Lim welcomed the provincial team led by PA Montejo.  It is where the Bilawa Hot Spring is located and is one of the top earning and mostly visited Community-Based Ecotourism destinations with over 200 coop-members.  Recently, the province was able to have its  10% share of revenue for its three (3) months of operation amounting to PhP600, 000.

These tourism destinations not only popularized Davao de Oro in the market, but it also served as a gateway for more job opportunities for the locals. Its revamp from the pandemic generated more income-generating revenues and established cooperatives with its local workforce such as farmers, fisherfolks, mountain and boat guides, and caterers.

The team also met with Mayor Angelito J. Cabalquinto of Maragusan, and discussed plans for infrastructure provisions and other necessities in some tourism sites in Maragusan.

Recently, the tourism  division of the province in partnership with the provincial health office conducted a Covid-19 vaccination drive to various tourism facilities to further secure its operations amidst the pandemic. (PAO-IPRD DdO)

DdO commemorates feast day of St. Camillus de Lellis

Davao de Oro --- The Provincial Government of Davao de Oro through the Provincial Health Office (PHO), offered a holy mass led by Rev. Fr. Arnulfo C. Tiplaca on July 14, 2022, as a commemoration of Saint Camillus (San Camilo) de Lellis, the universal patron of hospitals, nurses, doctors, and the sick.

St. Camillus was known for his violent temper, reckless behaviour, and habitual gambling. When he was wounded during the military engagement, the injury never fully healed during his lifetime, and it altered the course of his entire life.

But where sin abounds, grace abounds all the more. He confessed and offered his life to the Almighty. He died in Rome on July 14, 1614 and was proclaimed as patron of hospitals and the sick. He also declared as protector of all nuns who care for the sick.

This year’s celebration with the theme “Hope and Healing: An Old Faith in a New Normal Life”, aims at strengthening faith and ask St. Camillus and Our Lady of Good Health to intercede for all the sick, all the frontliners, and all who are experiencing trouble during this global crisis.

Dr. Antonio P. Ybiernas Jr., PG Department Head, said in a statement that everyone has a chance to become like St. Camillus, despite his vices, he changed the course of his life and devoted himself to rendered service, ministering to the sick and dying, and helping other people, especially those who are in need.

Program proper followed after the mass, where employees of PHO showcased their talents in a festive dance competition critiqued by Executive Assistant Edward B. Macapili and Claire Joy R. Gonzaga from the Office of the Governor. The festivity was capped with a shared lunch full of grace. (R. Hortizano, Photos by PHO-DdO)

PHO-Davao de Oro to launch feeding programs in LGUs

Davao de Oro Province---In celebration of the Nutrition Month with the theme ““New normal na nutrisyon, sama-samang gawan ng solusyon,” the Provincial Government of Davao de Oro headed through the Provincial Health Office (PHO) will continue to strengthen its programs to counter malnutrition incidence in the province.

Recently, the Adopt-A-Child Program, an initiative spearheaded by the PHO rehabilitated a total of thirty-three (33) children beneficiaries formerly under the brink of malnutrition in the municipality of Laak. The program successfully addressed barriers that impedes children to access a healthier life, and regulated the effects of malnutrition among the beneficiaries. During its operation, the program offers weekly supplies for every beneficiary funded by the different departments of the provincial government.

According to the PHO, community-based feeding program operations of the provincial government will continue to operate starting-off in the municipality of Pantukan, with the second highest malnutrition incidence following Laak, this second week of July. The community-based feeding program will also cover the rest of the municipalities in the province.

Earlier this morning during the regular flag raising ceremony, PHO encouraged each and every employee of PLGU-DdO to a healthier lifestyle in order to further adapt with the changes brought by the pandemic. A nutrition hut was also established by PHO at the provincial capitol lobby, offering fresh farm-produce from the Nabunturan Vendors initiated by the Provincial Agriculturist’s Office (PAGRO).

The Provincial Government of Davao de Oro, recently recognized the milestones of “๐‘ช๐’‚๐’๐’ ๐‘ซ๐’…๐‘ถ๐‘ช", acknowledging its front-liners and partners in delivering genuine services to the constituents during the hardest of times.

When the Covid-19 pandemic hits the province, after one week or two, one of the programs initiated by the head of provincial hospitals, with the help of the technical working group of the province, was the formulation of “๐‘ช๐’‚๐’๐’ ๐‘ซ๐’…๐‘ถ๐‘ช ๐’•๐’†๐’๐’†๐’Ž๐’†๐’…๐’Š๐’„๐’Š๐’๐’†” which is in response to limit the face-to-face contact during the pandemic intensification. Under the program, the patients, even if they are only in the comfort of their home, will be able to consult medical specialists from four (4) Provincial Hospitals in Pantukan, Laak, Montevista, and Maragusan through online modality and phone calls as well.

In a statement by Governor Uy, “who would have thought of the onset of the pandemic, an innovative program developed by the young province can be made sustainable.”  The governor also highlights the achievement of the province within the 2-year time since the program has been developed, “September last year, we already catered all 250+ barangays, including the special barangays … as of today, the service has reached, served and treated almost 50,000 cases for free”.

The cost-free program garnered “3๐’“๐’… ๐‘ท๐‘ณ๐‘จ๐‘ช๐‘ฌ ๐’Š๐’ ๐‘ซ๐’Š๐’ˆ๐’Š๐’•๐’‚๐’ ๐‘ฐ๐’๐’๐’๐’—๐’‚๐’•๐’Š๐’๐’ & ๐‘ฉ๐’†๐’”๐’• ๐’Š๐’ ๐‘ช๐’๐’—๐’Š๐’… ๐‘ท๐’‚๐’๐’…๐’†๐’Ž๐’Š๐’„ ๐‘น๐’†๐’”๐’‘๐’๐’๐’”๐’†” which is the first national award given by DICT last 2020  and it was also awarded as “๐‘ป๐‘ถ๐‘ท 20 ๐‘บ๐’†๐’Ž๐’Š-๐’‡๐’Š๐’๐’‚๐’๐’Š๐’”๐’• ๐’Š๐’ ๐‘ฎ๐’‚๐’๐’Š๐’๐’ˆ ๐‘ท๐’๐’๐’Œ” for sustainability out of 200 nominees. Thus, this could not be achieved without the untiring support of the Teleconsults/Doctors, Executive Committee, Government Internship Program, TWG especially for the Provincial Information and Communications Technology Office (PICTO) “the brains behind technology integration”, and even outside partners including APEX Mining Inc. for the administrative support, Globe Telecom for the implementation and UP Mindanao for the research and development of the program.

During the recognition and thanksgiving, medical front-liners shared their experiences during the darkest of times in protecting the lives of others and their families. Despite it, they were very much happy, the numbers tell, not only for the achievements and rewards of the program but also for the lives that have been saved.

The ceremony also served as the appreciation of Governor Tyron Uy for Call DdOC’s partners during his term as Governor of the province.

“This is the result of our ingenuity and innovation sa atong probinsya and tungod pud sa atong mga dekalidad nato nga mga doctors and medical staff nga walay lain gihunahuna kon dili ang welfare gyud sa atong mga katawhan. Thank you kaayo sa atong partners,  we wish to continue this program, hopefully we can find ways that we can collaborate still under the Vice-Governor’s Office. This is not the end of our journey but rather this is just start of our journey towards attaining quality healthcare for all sa atong probinsya. Kanatong tanan, daghang salamat!” Gov Uy added. After years of fighting against the communist movement, the entire Province of Davao de Oro is now free from insurgency after the Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) recently passed a resolution declaring the province as ๐—ถ๐—ป๐˜€๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐—ด๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ฐ๐˜†-๐—ณ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ฒ.

The declaration also came after the combined forces of the 1001st and 701st Infantry Brigades of the Philippine Army successfully dismantled all the Guerrilla Fronts, which were all under the Southern Mindanao Regional Committee (SMRC) of the New People’s Army (NPA) operating in the province since 2016.

10th Infantry Agila Division Commander Major General Nolasco Mempin said that "the total defeat of all the CTGs in the province is attributed not only to the dedication and aggressiveness of the commanders on the ground but to the strong leadership of Governor Jayvee Tyron Uy, in his exemplary efforts in achieving its ultimate goal of lasting peace in the province.”

In response, Governor Uy expressed gratitude to all the members of the PPOC, national agencies, private partners, local government units, and the security sector – the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police for their unwavering commitment and relentless efforts to counter and weaken the influence of communist rebels.

The Oplan Pagbabago to End Local Communist Armed Conflict, a localized whole of nation approach program of the province, also takes a significant stride in transforming conflict-affected areas into peaceful and developed communities. Shehara, a little girl who was left under the care of her grandparents, is among the beneficiary of the PLGU-employee-funded Adopt-a-Child Program in Davao de Oro.

Having been in the hands of both senior citizens since childbirth is a gift for Shehara. Her mother died from an illness when she was just two (2) months of age, and her biological father was left to attend to an older sibling.

Mainly relying on farming, Shehara’s father and grandparents support both Shehara, and her older brother, King. On June 7, 2022, Shehara just celebrated her first birthday and was made even extra special through the Adopt-a-Child Program.

It’s a day that Shehara would never forget. Through the convergence of sponsors from the Provincial Planning and Development Office (PPDO), Provincial Governor’s Office, Mayor Antonio Libuangan of Laak, and Sanina de Ukay Store, Shehara’s first nativity celebration went beyond the bare minimum.

Since its re-launching on  April 27, 2022, the Adopt-a-child program significantly made changes to the health status of thirty-three (33) children-beneficiaries in the municipality of Laak including the one (1) year-old Shehara. The program was funded mainly out of the pockets of the employees of the PLGU and was first launched way back in 2008.

Adopt-a-Child Program is one of the end-hunger program chains of PLGU-Davao de Oro that provides weekly supplies of goods and other services to children affected by malnutrition in a span of one-hundred twenty (120) days.

Moreover, extra services were offered by the employees aside from the weekly provision of supplies. Some offices provide kitchenwares, beddings, clothing, and even constructed comfort rooms and renovation of some house parts for their beneficiaries.

As the commencement of this year’s Adopt-a-child operations near an end, parents of children-beneficiaries are beyond grateful for the program, from wasted, severely wasted, and severely underweight, children-beneficiaries are now of normal body-mass index. New FMR , better living for Tagugpo residents in Pantukan

A newly built Farm-to-market (FMR)  road with a length of 1,260 meters, is now in service to the residents of Brgy. Tagugpo, Pantukan, Davao de Oro after a simple  turnover ceremony held last June 11, 2022.

DILG Davao de Oro Provincial Director Noel Duarte said during the official turn-over ceremony of the project, that FMRs established in the formerly conflict affected areas in the province will bring significant changes to people especially farmers, “Dili lang katawhan ang tumong sa proyekto, kundili ang katawhan ug ang iyang produkto,” said PD Duarte. Tagugpo’s new FMR opens access for farmers going to their respective farming areas much easier than ever.

Brgy. Tagugpo is among the sixty-five (65) barangay beneficiaries of the province under the Barangay Development Program (BDP) of the NTF-ELCAC. Each barangay beneficiary is granted a twenty (20) million peso budget for the establishment of much-needed services for the people not only limited to FMRs, but also water systems, health centers, electrification, and day-care centers for education.

Last October 2021, PLGU-Davao de Oro through the Bayanihan Sa Paaralan Program, established a Bayanihan school building with two (2) classrooms and complete amenities in a span of thirty (30) days which will cover primary education of the five (5) sitios in Tagugpo. Right after, a Salugpungan school in Sitio Maligaya, whose operation stopped in 2018 was demolished last January this year.

Further, the turn-over ceremony were attended by Governor Tyron Uy, together with  partners from the PNP, AFP, and DILG. “Ang susi sa kalambuan sa atong probinsya mao ang kalinaw,” said Governor Tyron Uy, “Hopefully atong mahimong zero ang insurgency dinhi sa atung probinsya, kay mao na ang akong pangandoy sukad 2016 isip inyung gobernador and that is my commitment sa pagpanerbisyo,” he added.

Davao de Oro has only one (1) remaining guerilla front, from eleven (11) fronts way-back 2016, a major decrease in insurgency as a result of the collective efforts of the provincial government and partner agencies. The series of turn-overs for the BDP funded projects in the province will continue in the upcoming days. (Jasteen Abella, PAO IPRD, photos by G. Mativo and J. Cadiz)

Another farm-to-market road opens new beginnings in Brgy. Napnapan Pantukan, Davao de Oro. Recently, completed Barangay Development Program (BDP) funded projects undergo ongoing official turn-over ceremonies by the provincial government.

In total, Davao de Oro ranks second after Davao City with the most projects from BDP of the National Task Force ELCAC, with one-hundred twenty-eight (128) projects received by sixty-five barangays (65) formerly under the brink of chaos due to insurgency.

The right implementation of the BDP-funded projects in DdO sets a trajectory for sustainable development in tourism in the province. Formerly hidden and hard to reach, more eco-tourism spots were now discovered and businesses began to boom which open more jobs for the people. From coffee shops in the mountain ranges and lake-side to highland resorts and adventure parks are some of BDP’s positive impacts in Davao de Oro.

According to the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), Davao de Oro is the best implementer for the BDP Projects, evidence of good governance through implementing government programs for the benefit of communities in far-flung communities.

Governor Tyron Uy, together with the DILG, PNP, AFP, and the office of Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), personally handed the completed FMR in Brgy. Napnapan with a length of 1,580 meters, following other turn-overs of much-needed community projects such as water systems, and health centers.

Other completed FMRs were now of service to the people of  Brgy. San Miguel Compostela, Lebanon Montevista, Brgy. Golden Valley Mabini, Brgy. Kahayag New Bataan, Brgy, Ngan Compostela, Brgy. Magangit, Sangab and Libay-libay of  Maco, Davao de Oro. (Jasteen Abella, PAO-IPRD, photos by G. Mativo)

Head Teacher Ordonio extends her words of gratitude to the government as the said projects would be a great help not only for holding school-related activities or programs but also for any big events in the community.

"The Mabini NHS is very much happy to accept the projects ... Nakahinumdom ko sauna nga wala pay bleachers , among mga studyante  magtindog maskig init kay dili sila magdala ug bangko. So with these bleachers, this would provide a degree of separation between spectators and participants, especially during the school programs. With this, they can still have a comfortable spot to sit on and they will be gathered in one place ... The Mabini NHS promised to take care of these ... we see to it that this would be well-maintained and the next generation can use it" Ordonio said.

Present on the said event were Mayor Reynaldo Dayanghirang of Mabini, and Brgy. Captain Asalain Pilarito Buntag of Brgy. Cuambog, duly represented by Brgy. Strongholds are weakened and progress starts to sprout in the corners of Davao de Oro’s valleys formerly under the grasp of the communist groups.

The deterioration of the red strongholds significantly turned the tables in favor of the residents in far-flung communities who suffered circumstances brought by the clash between the government and the rebels in the past years.

Since 2016, the eleven (11) identified guerilla fronts in Davao de Oro have turned down to one (1) in 2021, a shred of concrete evidence that the provincial government unleashed all its efforts to bring the program of the Duterte’s Administration in combating insurgency into action.

Recently, the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity (OPAPRU) honored thirty-eight (38) Leaders as partners of peace at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC). Seventeen (17) of which are Mindanawon Leaders including Governor Tyron Uy of Davao de Oro.

In a statement by OPAPRU Undersecretary David Diciano, OPAPRU honors its stakeholders for helping the agency towards pushing forward its programs and projects which enable former combatants to smoothly reintegrate into mainstream society and live as peaceful and productive Filipinos.

In Davao de Oro, one of the determiners of progress is achieving peace all throughout its scope through programs under its Peace Agenda. From 2016 to 2021, a total of 1,116 former rebels in the province received assistance and firearms remuneration from the Enhanced Comprehensive  Local Integration Program (ECLIP) of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).

Moreover, the Oplan Pagbabago program, a flagship program under Gov. Uy’s peace agenda, is instrumental to the achievements in relation to peace and order in the province. The program was able to pull-off accomplishments through provisions of assistance to former combatants and community-based serbisyo caravan which offers services to Dabawenyos in hard to reach areas.

Further, its strategic communications team also continues conducting information drives to prevent the infiltration of the communist groups in vulnerable sectors in the society such as the youth sector, labor groups, indigenous peoples, and women groups among others.

OPAPRU thanked its partners and stakeholders who worked with them side by side, focused on the goal of achieving secured and peaceful communities, and transforming the lives of former combatants.

Governor Uy expressed his gratitude to be a part of the OPAPRU, and prays that achievements of peace in the province will be sustained in order for every dabawenyo to live in peace and harmony. (JA PAO-IPRD, photo from Mindanews and J. Cadiz)

Rhealyn, a 4-year-old little girl sat beside her mother. Her eyes in awe wandered around, puzzled by what was happening around her. Excitement was evident as she looked at her mom, all she wanted that day were the colorful balloon decorations on stage, not knowing her life will change after 120 days.

Rhealyn is among the thirty-three (33) children identified by the Provincial Health Office (PHO) of Davao de Oro as the beneficiary of the Adopt-A-Child Program of the provincial government. Anchored on the “People Agenda” of Governor Tyron Uy’s 4Ps Plus blueprint in governance, the program is among the people-centered, end hunger chain programs which focus on the welfare of the people, especially children.

The Adopt-A-Child Program officially launched way back in 2008, during the time of former governor, now Senior Board Member Arturo “Chiongkee” Uy and continues in the present. The program targets children beneficiaries, who are wasted, severely wasted, and severely underweight who will undergo rehabilitation for a period of one-hundred twenty (120) days.

For the whole duration of the program, employees of the provincial government will sponsor the need of every child beneficiary through the provision of goods, services, and other nutrition interventions. Through the program, the existing nutrition programs of the government will be amplified, ending hunger and malnutrition one step at a time.

This year, the municipality of Laak is the chosen beneficiary of the program after having a great impact in Mabini, Montevista, Mawab, and Maco in the past few years.

On April 27, 2022, employees of PLGU-Davao de Oro converged at Laak Central Elementary school to officially start the quest to bring significant changes in the life of Rhealyn and the other thirty-two (32) children. A free-medical check-up is also conducted on the same day.

Hunger and malnutrition are silent killers, it impairs children, and lessen their school productivity, grabbing their future away from them. Plenty of ways exist to counter this great, yet solvable problem, but in Davao de Oro, it's innovative governance and Bayanihan ways will make the job done.

Another set of heavy duty infrastructure equipment was recently acquired by the Provincial Government of Davao de Oro in a blessing and turn-over ceremony held on April 11, 2022.

The provision of high quality, heavy duty equipment is salient for Davao de Oro’s on-going infrastructure developments such as the opening and maintenance of farm-to-market roads, construction of health centers, water systems, integrated schools, solar dryers, muti-purpose buildings, and evacuation centers. These newly acquired equipment can also be used when the need arise especially on disaster response in times of calamities.

Governor Tyron Uy graced the blessing and turn-over ceremony, together with Provincial Engineering’s Department Head Engr. Roderick Digamon, Asst. Provincial Administrator Raul Villocino, and employees of the provincial capitol.

A total of six (6) units Dump Trucks were officially acquired by the provincial government following the turn over of other twenty (20) heavy duty equipment last January this year. (JA PAO-IPRD, photos by G. Mativo )
