Racial Prejudices?

In all parts of our globe we find ethical hierarchy. It's an indirect status with fixed judgements and points of view. Social distance and discrimination predominate and make it easier to use categories such as "race", "naiton" or "culture".Social indifferences have been built up.

We can find he refusal because of the different skin color or adopted biological differences. We see misinterpretation of poverty and backwardness. We say of every refugee, i.e., that he seeks asylum.

Most racial prejudices have its  roots from the heritage of colonial supremacy. Justification of slavery goes back to the 17th century. In early colonial history skin color was not the main reason, it was the paganism of original inhabitants in America, Africa and Australia. bringing Christianity started the forward roll.

Terms such as "Indian" and "Negro" an be found even in world's literature: the good-natured "Winnetou" (German Karl May, 1842-1912); "Friday" (Freitag), the noble savage in "Robinson Crusoe" (Daniel Defoe, England, 1660-1731); or "Uncle Tom" (Harriet Beecher-Stowe, USA, 1811-1896).

Political conflicts between "white colonial supremacies" and "colored subjects" have been explained and described as racial segregation - many times instigated by Christian missionaries. Innumerable examples in world history proves brutal force and power up to genocide.

Reacial prejudices?

"Love your enemy as yourself!" (Leviciticus 19:18). Am I am enemy as expatriate in the Philippines?

"When alien live besides you in yourland, do not mistreat him. The alien living living with you must be treated as one of your native-born. Love him as yourself...." (Leviticus 19:33,34).

I published already earlier about my appointment as DAAD consultant in Davao City/Mindanao. New SSS Guidelines Bared

Also being an SSS member in the Philippines I learned that SSS has cut down its interest rates and relaxed its lending requirements to enable more companies to avail themselves of its social and business loans. The agency revised its loan guidelines to give companies easier access to credit, boost employment and expand SSS membership.

The interest rate of loan granted will remain fixed for a period of one year. The loan will be subject to change based on the prevailing interest rate on its anniversary month to match market rates. ]

Under the new guidelines, employers can use the loan to acquire existing structures, expand and diversify business and fund projects in forest development and sustainable energy.

I learned from SSS President and Chief Executive Officer Emilio de Quiros, Jr., that in a span of over 23 years, SSS has released more than 23 billion Pesos to fund more then 5,000 projects that have generated more then 99,000 jobs, created more then 4,000 hospital beds and many things more.

My life as an expat in the Philippines is indeed very colorful (as I just stated in my weekly column in Mindanao Daily Mirror). I met a lot of people - and, my hobby, the music, has become also my "job" several times, i.e. as radio host for several years in Davao City.

I love to support local Philippino talents, i.e. NEVERHEARD. These young talented boys were born and raised in the lands where many and mostly talented people are, in Davao and Digos City. Please correct me, if I am wrong. They are presently studying in exclusive colleges and universities. This band (Alternative, experimental -!- and hard rock!)  may not be your real alternative rock band. They may jove to the sails (as they said) where the waters bring them. But, believe me, give them a try.

My wife and I love to take time out in a very special beach resort on Samal Island. Years passed by, sometimes even a whole decade... suddenly we meet friends here never having seen for quite a long time. What a small world.

The Cool Advocate: Jesus "Jess" Dureza

"He is a cool guy!" That has been one of the first comments of one of my FACEBOOK friends after posting a photo and mentioning about Jess' visit in my residence a couple of days ago. Yes, he is indeed a cool guy - he's a cool advocate.

That's why I entitled  my today's post like this.

I met him several times before - a couple of months ago in General Santos City during a lunch break in the hotel before my friends and I were leaving for Sarangani and Lake Sebu.

We are "friends" in Facebook. During our dinner in my house he testified, that he has a lot of friends. Friends in its real meaning. No wonder... .

Jesus "Jess" Dureza, an enigmatic character being a great friend and personality at the same time with short but very clear and understandable answers to all my questions.

Davao City's mayor Sara Duterte's punching incident is human, but must not be accepted and tolerated by some people. My "green solidarity sign" has been accepted by him. Democracy and free opinion in the Philippines...?

Jesus "Jess" Dureza, leaving the political stage... . He likes to be "involved in other things" - maybe. Dureza, now publisher of the Davao City based "Mindanao Times" (by the way, my column tabloid before for many years), tells his opinion in many other publications, also in Mindanao Daily Mirror - the daily with my presently weekly Friday column "In my opinion".

Questions regarding the present political situation in the Philippines, Jess has a lot of very understandable answers. Honestly, I agree with them very strongly. Why are people asking to replace the present government in the Philippines? Crossing the line? I quote Jess: "Whether we are happy or unhappy with the present state of affairs under the PNoy presidency is of no moment. Whatever it is, that doesn't justify another "adventurism" to take place."

Jess Dureza "loves to live in Davao City, visit Cebu City from time to time and do business in Manila".

Living abroad? No question. NO!

God and religion is very important for him and his family. Family and its bounds  are to be described as primarily. 

Is Dr. Jose Rizal still his (national) hero? Of course, NOT. Rizal is history. His idol has been his father - a simple bus driver, who feed the whole family with this little income. 

Foreigners in the Philippines are still very welcome... .

And, fears in life? Not at all. Live your life as it is!

No wonder. Every time I got a problem with my telephone line or internet connection, all problems have been solved within minutes. 

Don't get me wrong, this is not a promotion post for the PLDT, the Philippine Long Distance Telephone... .

Fact is, PLDT has been named the best managed company in the Philippines, not according to me, but according to the annual poll of Asia's top companies by FinanceAsia, aleading financial publication in Asia.

Amazing Adventures in Awesome Agusan del Norte and Agusan del Sur (II)

The province of Agusan was named after a Malay word meaning where water flows", probably because o the might river that travellers the whole area. Early migrants from Borneo and  Celebes came to the region in Balanghais or wooden boats. Nine such boats were excavated and carbon-dated to be between the 4th and 13th centuries. The Malay settlers drove the aborigines, called Mamanwas, to the hinterlands.

By the time the Spaniards arrived, the natives were already trading with foreign merchants, as attested by 10th century ceramics unearthed near Butuan. Some historians claim that Magellan held the first mass in the Philippines in Masao at the month of the Agusan River, and not in Limsasawa, Leyte, on Easter Sunday of March 15, in the year 1521.

Must see in Agusan del Norte: "Pur Lady of Assumption Parish/Musuem: Fr. Urious instigated the people of Jabonga to look for a higher ground for a permanent church. Today, it is the oldest surviving Spanish church in the entire of Carage located in Jabonga.

"Lake Mainit", an incredible confluence of 28 rivers, a 17,430 hectare lake situated 80 feet above sea level with a mean depth of 128 meters as the 4th biggest in the country. Endemic fishes are the Gabot and Pidjanga. Native flora include the Pagosi and Tabokali, fauna includes the Giant Purple Heron, among others.  I really appreciate, that ecotourism activities are availabe and here canoeing, bird-watching, and cultual contact.

Amazing Adventures in Awesome Agusan del Norte and del Sur

 

Rain or shine, I am still travelling around Mindanao. One day I arrived in Agusan del Norte. It's a province of the Philippines located in the Caraga region in Mindanao. Its capital is Butuan City and borders Surigao del Norte to the north, Surigao del Sur to the east, Agusan del Sur to the south, and Misamis Oriental to the west (one of my next destinations!).

Agusan del Norte is subdivided into one city and ten municipalities: Buenvista, Cabadbaran City, Carmen, Jabonga, Kitcharao, Las Nieves, Magalannes, Nasipit, Remedios T. Romualdez, Santiago and Tubay.

 It's sometimes difficult to write or report about Philippine entertainment stuff. 

Actress Maricel Soriano, i.e. has been summoned by barangay officials in Makati City to answer the complaint against her by two of her housemaids.

The two house helpers had accused her of physical and verbal abuse.

HAY NAKU...!

According to Michael Gonzales, Barangay Poblacion administrator, barang chair Benhur Cruz has ordered Soriano to attend a hearing at the barangay hall.

By the way, two other housemaids filed a complaint against Soriano in Februrary 2011 but it was dismissed when they failed to pursue it.

Famous, well known, an ordinary Filipino or just a neighbor (expatriate or not!)... Barangay, court... HAY NAKU... .

Suspected German Pedophile Faces Deportation

Sometimes, it's not easy to write about countrymen in the Philippines, especially, if they committed crime.

A suspected German paedophile, as I learned from PNA (Philippine News Agency), who is wanted for sexually abusing 17 minors (!) in Germany will soon be deported after 13 years of hiding in the country.

Bureau of Immigration Commissioner Ricardo David Jr. identified the suspect as 49-years-old GISBERT LEISTNER, who is presently detained at the BI jail in Bicutan, Taguig City, near Manila.

Imigration legal chief Arvin Santos said the BIU board of commissioners has already issued a summary deportation against Leistner, thus he will be expelled as soon as the German Embassy releases his travel documents.

David said that as an undesirable alien, Leistner does not to deserve the privilege to stay in the Philippines. He also warned other foreign fugitives hiding in the country that their days are numbered as they are now the object of a manhunt by the bureau's intelligence operatives.

I agree. It happened in all countries all over the world. And,this has nothing to do with an unfriendly (?) immigration system in the Philippines.

In Leistner's case it is very clear.

Phillipines Going Green - Another Example

The provincial government spearheads a tree planting activity on June 25, 2011 at 6 in the morning at Lamdag Eco-Tourism Complex located in Barangay Pasian, Monkayo, in compliance with Presidential Executive Order No. 36 of His Excellency Benigno C. Aquino III for a "Nationwide Synchronozied Planting during Arbor Day.

Participated as by the Capitol employees and a national line agencies, more than 2,000 forest trees were planted such as Lauan, Mahogany, Narra, Rubber, among others.

Arbor Day in the Philippines is observed every 25th of June. All activities of the Philippine society are encouraged to actively participate in promoting eco-systems. The activity is also part of Governor Arturo T. Uy's "Provinvicial Greening Program" dubbed as "20 Million 15 Trees" (planting 20 million trees till the year 2015!).

NPA Contact CDO Mayor to Deny Extortion Try Against German Doctors - Interaksyon.com

I was really sad and frustrated to get the news, that Germans closed hospital in Cagayan de Oro. - At the medical facility of the Committee of German doctors there, sadness and uncertainty were indeed written on the faces of patients who have been lining up for free medical treatment when, at around 4 pm two days ago staff members started posting signs that there will be no medical consultations.

Of course, health workers at the hospital operated jointly by the Committee of German Doctors for Developing Countries and the Jose P. Rizal College of Medicine of the Xavier University - Ateneo de Cagayan are still uncertain about their employment. 

Actually the government and the NDF have signed the "Comprehensive Agreement on Respect for Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law (CARHRIHL). The NPA (New Peoples Army) fully adheres to it.
