BY ROBERT REQUINTINA

AT A GLANCE

The nation's girl group BINI has proudly reaffirmed its partnership with ABS-CBN during a contract signing event dubbed "BINI: Kapamilya Hanggang Dulo" held at the ABS-CBN Dolphy Theater in Quezon City.

This event is an important milestone, happening four years after BINI's debut. It shows their growth and ongoing journey in the Philippine music industry.

All BINI members—Sheena, Jhoanna, Mikha, Stacey, Gwen, Maloi, Colet, and Aiah—were present to mark this significant milestone.

ABS-CBN COO Cory Vidanes spoke on behalf of the ABS-CBN management to express congratulations and appreciation to the blooming idols.

“Thank you for your continued trust in ABS-CBN. You entrusted us from the day you auditioned for BINI until today when you signed our new contract. This is a commitment to our shared goal of world-class excellence. Congratulations on all your successes. We are very proud of who you have become and what you have achieved,” she said.

“BINI, you are very special, and you have become a part of Pinoy culture. You rightfully deserve to be called the nation’s girl group and the pride of the Filipino people,” she added.

The group, through Aiah, thanked ABS-CBN for their trust and for allowing them to maintain their individuality and authenticity.

“Thank you because you were the first to believe in us. Thank you because you allow us to become authentic; you allow us to grow at our own pace. We also have our voice, and you don’t shut us down," she said.

BINI.jpg

The group is also looking forward to more beautiful years together. “We’ve gone through a lot for the first couple of years together at hindi madali with the whole shutdown, pandemic, and everything else. But knowing that we can get through that, ano pa kaya in the next couple of years? And I think what’s going to be beautiful is that we’re all still gonna be there for each other and conquer through all of those,” shared Aiah.

The group’s leader, Jhoanna, meanwhile, thanked their families for being with them in their journey.

“Alam nyo ba, Blooms, na dito sa lugar na ito, dito rin kami unang nag-evaluation. Parang bumabalik lang ang memories at kasama ulit namin ang families namin.Thank you for keeping us grounded kasi sobrang overwhelming yung mga nangyari. Thank you for guiding us na maging humble palagi. (Did you know, Blooms, that here in this place, this is where we first evaluated ourselves. It's like the memories are just coming back, and our families are with us again. Thank you for keeping us grounded, because what happened was so overwhelming. Thank you for guiding us to always be humble)," she said.

BINI also addressed their critics who directed hurtful comments towards them.

“To our bashers, thank you. Hindi po siya madali to see the bashing, hating and all the negativity. Hindi siya madali. Masakit siya pero, you know what? Thank you, Kasi. That's what motivates us to keep pushing, to be stronger, and to give out our all,” said BINI Aiah.

She added: “At least that is something that we can turn into something great,” Aiah remarked.

“Masakit siya pero it also allows us to look at all the brighter things in life and the many things that we could be grateful for.”

“Sa mga bashers, ang sakit niyo magsalita pero thank you pa rin. Because of it, parang mas lalo ako tuloy nagkakapurpose kung bakit it’s always nice to be loving kasi ang daming hate, ang daming negativities so parang you get to see all of it and it makes you have a purpose to keep doing good because people need that love. People need that kindness. (To the bashers, it hurts to speak, but thank you anyway. Because of it, I feel more purposeful because it's always nice to be loving because there's so much hate, so much negativity, so it seems like you get to see all of it, and it makes you have a purpose to keep doing good because people need that love. People need that kindness)," she added.

Also present at the momentous event were ABS-CBN chairman Mark Lopez, president and CEO Carlo Katigbak, chief financial officer Rick Tan, head of entertainment production and Star Magic Lauren Dyogi, ABS-CBN Music head Roxy Liquigan, and BINI’s manager for Star Magic Mylene Quintana-Mallari.

Their respective families also witnessed BINI’s latest milestone; some of BINI’s fans dubbed BLOOMs, brand partners, and media members.

On Feb. 13, BINI dropped another refreshing and catchy sound in the single “Blink Twice."

Mikha described the song as an appeal to go straight to the point when expressing or admitting love. “I feel like the song is about hwag na tayong magpaligoy-ligoy pa. Let’s go straight to the point,” she said.

According to Mikha, the song is also slated for international release. “It’s like ‘Cherry on Top,’ and we also worked with international producers and songwriters on this one. Of course, we want to give the best for you guys and we want to reach the international stage.”

The group announced the new music offering at the end of the “BINIverse” tour last year, which sold over 50,000 tickets nationwide and culminated at the three-day sold-out show at the Araneta Coliseum.

“Blink Twice” is the follow-up to their last full English song “Cherry On Top,” which has already amassed over 100 million global audio streams and video views combined.

The pop sensation made their first live performance of “Blink Twice” at the highly anticipated concert, “BINIverse World Tour: Philippines," at the Philippine Arena last Feb. 15.

Organizers defend Ben&Ben from allegations of being difficult to work with: 'I don't think that's fair'

Organizers of an upcoming Filipino music festival have come to the defense of OPM band Ben&Ben in response to allegations that the band is difficult to work with.

"I want to defend Ben&Ben from allegations that the group is a diva when it comes to dealing with them. Pero para sabihin na sila ay unreasonable and hard to work with, I don't think that's fair. (But to say they are unreasonable and hard to work with, I don't think that's fair)," said Gladys Basinillo, founder of Fusion, during an interview for the Fusion: The Philippine Music Festival, which will be held at the CCP Open Grounds on March 15.

Gladys added: "The group is very detailed regarding their requirements and technical aspects of the show. They work with the supplier and budget we have. They are reasonable; that's why I cannot call them a diva."

"Just because ma-detalye sila, demanding na. No. You have to understand the group is a nine-piece band. Hindi talaga sila madaling isalang. But they are very prepared. (Just because they're detailed, they're demanding. No. You have to understand the group is a nine-piece band. They're not really easy to put together)," she said.

Fusion: The Philippine Music Festival

The festival is back for another go, bringing together icons, rising stars, and a world-class production.

Get ready for an electrifying night of OPM as Fusion: The Philippine Music Festival brings together some of the biggest names in the industry at the CCP Open Grounds on March 15.

Headlined by Ben&Ben, December Avenue, and Zack Tabudlo, the festival promises an unforgettable experience with powerhouse acts like The Itchyworms, Barbie Almalbis, Alamat, KAIA, Maki, Jan Francis and ALLMO$T, alongside an exciting lineup of rising stars and dynamic DJs.

Directed by Paul Basinillo and powered by Nestea, Nescafé, Bear Brand Sterilized, Hapee, Dazz, and Fudgee Barr, Fusion is set to be more than just a concert—it’s a celebration of Filipino music at its finest.

Founded in 2015 as the country’s first-ever Philippine Music Festival, Fusion was created with a vision: to unite all forms of OPM—across genres, generations, and managements—into one grand celebration.

From the start, it stood as a testament to OPM’s power, bringing the nation together while delivering top-tier production value to showcase and support Filipino talent.

More than just a concert, Fusion: The Philippine Music Festival is a celebration of unity through Original Pinoy Music (OPM). Music is the heartbeat of the Filipino spirit, bridging generations and connecting the nation through a universal language.

Over the years, Fusion has evolved into a cultural movement—a rallying cry for Filipinos to take pride in their artistry. More than just a festival, it serves as a platform that elevates homegrown talent, uniting legacy icons, global Filipino musicians, and emerging artists in a one-of-a-kind OPM experience.

"Now is the time to put OPM in the spotlight," said Gladys. "While international acts continuously fill arenas and festivals across the country, our own artists and music deserve the same level of support. Fusion is here to make that happen—to give Filipino music the recognition it deserves."

“Looking back at the very first Fusion concert in 2015, our goal was simple: to unite artists from different genres and showcase the strength of Original Pilipino Music (OPM).

Now, 10 years later, we’re taking things to the next level—not just by gathering the best and biggest artists, but by redefining what it means to go to a concert," shared Paul.

"If we can create top-tier productions for international artists, why shouldn’t we do the same—if not more—for our own? We want to bring back the thrill of live music—to make concert-going a must-do experience again, especially for the younger generation. Fusion 2025 is designed to be more than just a show—it’s an all-day, immersive festival that goes beyond the main stage.”

Fusion 2025 carries the powerful theme “Musika Natin ‘To!”—a call to embrace and uplift OPM with pride. This milestone event will bring together the best of Filipino music in an immersive experience that goes beyond performances, featuring interactive art, cultural exhibits, and a showcase of local flavors.

More than a festival, it is a declaration that OPM is not just music—it is our identity, our pride, and our story as a nation.

"This 10th year of Fusion is a milestone for OPM, proving that Filipino music continues to evolve, grow, and inspire. But more than that, it’s a milestone for live entertainment in the Philippines. This is our chance to set the standard for what a modern Filipino music festival can be—something that rivals international festivals, with our own unique identity.” said Paul.

“This isn’t just about the past decade of OPM. This is about the next generation of Filipino music artists and fans. This is about bringing people back to live events, making concerts an experience they will always want to be part of.”

"As we showcase to the country and the world our passion for OPM, we hope to inspire more institutions, organizations, and every Filipino to join us in this journey of putting our OPM as front and center in our music scene,” added Gladys.

Rhian Ramos and Allen Dizon in 'Unconditional'

The cast of the upcoming film "Unconditional" under BR Productions recently shared their thoughts on the important idea of unconditional love in romantic relationships.

During a media conference in Quezon City, the stars had meaningful discussions about love. They talked about how love goes beyond conditions and expectations.

They shared personal stories that showed how selfless love can have a strong impact. These honest reflections explain how true love can build deep connections and strength between partners, even during tough times.

Among the stars who shared their thoughts on unconditional love include Rhian Ramos, Allen Dizon, director Joel Lamangan, Elizabeth Oropesa, Lotlot De Leon, Paolo Gumabao, and Rico Barrera.

"Pinag-usapan na nga ng cast kung may unconditional sa mundo. Sabi ko magulang is unconditional love. In some way pa rin, may some kind of exchange kung ano yung mapo-provide mo for a person. It is possible na unconditional siya in some ways as long as my needs are met in other ways. Kanya-kanya talaga yan sa mga magpartner kung ano ang napag-usapan ninyo. (There are some conditions you hold emotionally. The cast has already discussed whether there is unconditional love in the world. I said parents are unconditional love. Somehow, there is still some exchange between what you can provide for a person. He is possibly unconditional in some ways as long as my needs are met in other ways. What you've talked about is really up to you as a partner. There are some conditions you hold emotionally)," said Rhian.

Minsan nawawala. Give and take and relationships. (It really depends on the person. Unconditional means you are comfortable with each other. You don't hide anything from each other. You already know your secrets and weaknesses. But your love isn't always unconditional like it is with your friends. Sometimes it disappears. Relationships are give and take.)

cast.jpg
The cast of the movie 'Unconditional'

"May reservations pa rin ako. Hindi pa ako nagkaroon ng relationship na all mine to give. Palaging may natitira. Hindi ko na siguro matatagpuan kasi I'm too old na rin. Hindi ko pa talaga na experience yung all-out. Ang unconditional sa akin is between my dogs and cats. Yan ang unconditional sa akin. (I still have reservations. I've never had a relationship where I'm all mine to give. There's always something left over. I probably won't find it because I'm too old. I haven't really experienced the all-out yet. What's unconditional to me now are my dogs and cats)," said Elizabeth.

Kasi mahal mo. Kung may pagkakamali pwede mo naman unawain at pagbigyan. (When I fall in love, I give everything. And I don't regret it because you love the person. When you love someone, no matter what you do, you don't regret it. Because you love your partner. If there is a mistake, you can understand and forgive.)

"Hindi ako naniniwala na there's a word such as unconditional. Lahat naman tayo may kundisyon eh. Kung unconditional yan that means kahit lokohin ka, bastusin ka, nakawan ka ng pera, or pagtaksilan ka, dapat mahal mo pa rin. Hindi totoo ang unconditional love. You can love, yes, pero sometimes, when that person you love crosses the line, then the question will the same person still be worth loving? Kung mahal ka ng tao bakit pagtataksilan? Bakit ka lolokohin? Bakit ka sasaktan physically or emotionally? That's not love. So, to answer your question, 'No. I don't believe in unconditional love. (I don't believe there's such a thing as unconditional. We all have conditions. If it's unconditional, that means even if you're fooled, abused, robbed of money, or betrayed, you should still love. Unconditional love is not true. You can love, yes, but sometimes, when that person you love crosses the line, then the question is will the same person still be worth loving? If someone loves you, why would they betray you? Why would they fool you? Why would they hurt you physically or emotionally? That's not love)," said Lotlot.

When it comes to relationships, I agree with Ms Lotlot (De Leon) said. There's no such thing as unconditional love. There are always conditions. (I just believe in the unconditional love of parents. Even when their children do something bad, their parents are still there. When it comes to relationships, I agree with Ms Lotlot (De Leon) said. There's no such thing as unconditional love. There are always conditions.)

"In a relationship, I am willing to love someone. Sa pagmamahal, hindi naman ako naniningil so I will give love. Siguro bahala na si Lord kung paano ang magiging condition naman sa isa't isa. Kung mamahalin ba niya ako. Kung ako lang ang nagmamahal, loss ng tao yun hindi ako. (In a relationship, I am willing to love someone. In love, I don't charge anything so I will give love. Maybe the Lord will take care of how the conditions will be for each other if the person will love me. If I am the only one who loves, that is the person's loss, not mine)," Rico said.

Produced under BR (Brandon Ramirez) Productions, "Unconditional" is an LGBTQ-themed movie that tackles love and acceptance. It is directed by Adolf Alix Jr. and line-produced by Dennis Evangelista. Written by Jerry B. Gracio, the film will hit theaters soon.

World hip-hop dance champion Gela Atayde took a moment over the weekend to express her heartfelt gratitude to ABS-CBN for their generous support.

Gela emphasized how the network's platform has enabled her to inspire and uplift aspiring dancers across the country.

Through their collaboration, Gela has been able to share her journey, skills, and passion for dance, offering hope and encouragement to countless individuals looking to pursue their dreams in the vibrant world of dance.

Atayde, the youngest daughter of veteran actress and film producer Sylvia Sanchez and businessman Art Atayde, said she was pleased and satisfied to host the survival dance reality show “Time to Dance” of ABS CBN and Nathan Studios that started last Saturday night.

“All I want is really to front all the dancers here. It is really their show. I am very excited to showcase their journeys and hope their stories will inspire the viewers,” the 22-year-old De La Salle University AB Communication Arts student said during the show’s last week news conference.

“They can surely relate to the life of the dancers. Their stories must be seen and must be heard by the people especially in the dance community. It’s really great to be a part of this. I am very thankful to ABS CBN,” Gela explained as she emphasized her great passion for the show.

Gela’s host partner in the newest dance show is Robi Domingo, and the judges are Ken San Jose and Vimi Rivera.

Gela, a two-way talent from being a young actress and new generation dance champion, admitted that she really loves acting but dancing is close to her heart, hoping she could excel in both worlds at the same time.

“Dancing is close to my heart, but then first love ko is acting, they would expose me to teleseryes. That is my ultimate dream, but upon entering, i want to showcase this talent of mine, masarap makilala bilang dancer, but bilang artista, this is something I want to work. Gusto ko na pong umarte.”

She also recommended that the show’s participants trust themselves during preparation and training to make their performance extra special.

“Do it alone, do it scare, and do it with pride. Just do it. Just trust your body because if you know that you rehearse enough and you do very well in practice and training, it will come out during the contest on stage,” Gela explained.

Gela also thanked Star Magic, mom Sylvia Sanchez, Direk Lauren Dyogi for believing in her and conceptualizing the program and its collaboration with different productions. She considered the project as an advocacy as a part of the community and being in a team.

“I see the ins and outs, yung mga kulang at sobra. I want to do this as I want to be able to help those who want to learn about dance and inspire,” she added. “Again, I am very grateful for the opportunity.”

Gela is also part of the country’s dance group Legit Status, which won the 2023 World Hiphop Dance Championship in Phoenix, Arizona, beating 54 other dance groups from all over the world.

As the new generation dance champion, she said there is always a sense of humility since it is hard to believe that she deserves many things that come for her.

“I am grateful na binigay po sa akin, it is something that a champion, for me, people will look up to you. I do live by the title now that is given to me,” Gela said, who is hoping to have a future dance collaboration with Sarah Geronimo, Billy Crawford, and Gary “Mr. Pure Energy” Valenciano.

Gela Atayde marks milestones in 'Time to Dance'

New Generation Dance Champion Gela Atayde showcases her passion for dance by hosting the survival reality show “Time to Dance” on ABS-CBN beginning Saturday, Jan. 18.

During a media conference on Jan. 16, Gela got emotional as she recalled the creation of the dance show.

"This is a passion project of mine. It was pitched to me to have a dance show. It was the idea of Star Magic kay Direk Lauren (Dyogi). It was he who believed in me in the first place. My mom (Sylvia Sanchez) helped me conceptualize these things. It was a collaboration of different productions," said Gela, the daughter of Art Atayde and veteran actress Sylvia Sanchez.

Gela added: "But my mom would always say na dahil nakita nila yung puso and passion ko sa dance but also for the community. Being in the community, I see the ins and outs and what happens. I want to help those who wish to dance more, especially those who cannot afford it."

Robi Domingo, who also hosts the dance program, praised Gela for her debut as a television host.

"We can see Gela's passion and all the show's personalities from different walks of life. The show is timely because the last dance show of ABS-CBN is World of Dance.

"Then we also have Your Moment with singing and dancing. Then the last dance segment was Girl on Fire na sobrang lakas din ng appeal. I'm sure magiging malakas din ang impression nila sa 'Time to Dance.' (Then we also have Your Moment, which includes singing and dancing. Then, the last dance segment was Girl on Fire, which also had a powerful appeal. They will also make a strong impression on 'Time to Dance.)

"Mapapanood niyo rito ang mga iba't ibang tao na may iba't ibang problema na ang goal talaga nila ay sumayaw at hindi pa huli ang lahat sa programang ito. (You can watch here different people with different problems whose real goal is to dance and it's not too late for everyone in this program)

"Grabe rito ang puso ni Gela. I think umiyak ka rito ng 52 times. Everytime may elimination, iiyak na naman si Gela. It's how she shows her heart and passion. I think it's endearing," said Robi. (Gela's heart is so heavy here. I think you cried 52 times here. Every time there's an elimination, Gela cries again).

Gela, 21, who has also been in a young modeling and acting career, said she was inspired her elder brother Rep. Arjo Atayde of Quezon City to dance when she was 12.  When asked if she’s been in other types of dancing, like ballroom and others, she replied that she's only been in hip-hop and street dance.

“Watching Kuya Arjo dance back when he was a competitive dancer sparked my love for dancing. But today, other talented dancers around the country inspire me to grow in dance continuously,” Gela said. “This is the path I have always wanted to take."

She has been motivated by many people, like her first former coaches, Coach Von and Chinky Asilo, in her former dance team — Poveda Enciende — for raising her to be the dancer she is today.

“All the values they taught me from when I was 13 to 18 have brought me here. They are the two people that keep me going. Aside from them, my family and friends continuously support me. They are my motivations.”

Gela isn’t a newbie in the international hip-hop street dance competition scene. She’s a champion in the 2017 Dance Worlds and a bronze medalist in the International Cheer Union in Orlando, Florida. She was also a champion locally in the Beacon Dance Competition and at the Chosen Ground 15 in 2019.

Another milestone for Gela was recording her first song for the theme of Time to Dance with Kyle Echarri.

Members of the Time to Dance council include Ken San Jose, Vimi Rivera, Chips Beltran, Lema Diaz, and Jobel Dayrit.

"I feel honored to be a judge in the show. It's nice to participate in this show, share my input with the contestants, and be part of their journey throughout the show," said Ken.

Vimi said: "I want to thank ABS-CBN and Nathan Studios for providing the dance community with this platform. Yung mga nakapasok na dancers sa show, they are the lifeline of the program. It allows for bridging the show and the dance community. I am so grateful na may respect na talaga sa dance community. Nagkaroon na ng opportunity ma-showcase ang dance groups natin. We are trying our best to showcase the dance community."

In choosing the grand champ, Vimi said: "You must be your best. It is still a competition. There will be one winner. As a dancer, you need to be skilled and creative. But on top of that, you have to be competitive. If your endurance and fighting spirit are shaky, you will not endure. There will be pressure. Pressure is good as long as you embrace that. We will have the best dancer at the end of the first season."

Ken added: "Dance is not just movement. They need to be skilled. As a performer, you must use your skills and emotions to tell a story so everyone can connect."

Jillian Ward

Star of the New Generation Jillian Ward recently shared her journey toward independence, reflecting on how this new chapter allows her to explore the complexities of love and relationships.

Emphasizing the importance of self-discovery, Jillian expressed how stepping away from her family's influence has empowered her to better understand her feelings and desires.

As she navigates the exciting yet challenging world of romance, the Kapuso actress embraces the opportunity to grow as an individual while opening her heart to the possibilities of falling in love.

"Independent na po ako ngayon. May sarili na akong space. Yun ang gift ko sa sarili ko. After work, doon talaga ako pumupunta. Nandoon na rin ang mga gamit ko. Pero umuuwi pa rin ako sa family house namin kasi hindi ko pa talaga kaya mag-isa. Ang hirap ng nagigising na walang pagkain. (I'm independent now. I have my own space. That's my gift to myself. After work, that's where I go. My things are there too. But I still go home to our family house because I can't really be alone yet. It's hard to wake up without food)," said Jillian during an interview for her latest series "My Ilonggo Girl" held at Luxent Hotel in Quezon City.

"May yaya naman ako pero purposely naka-lock lang talaga ako sa space ko. Pahinga lang talaga ako. Feeling ko talaga independent na ako pero lahat ng kilos ko naka-update sa nanay ko. (I have a nanny but I purposely locked myself in my space. I'm just resting. I feel like I'm independent now but all my actions are updated with my mother.)

"Pinipilit ko talaga na maging adult na ako pero may nakatagong CCTV doon na nilagay ng nanay ko. May freedom na ako ngayon pero hindi ko pa talaga kayang humiwalay sa kanila. Madalas one day lang ako sa unit ko tapos uuwi na ako sa amin. (I'm really trying to be an adult but there's a hidden CCTV there that my mother installed. I have freedom now but I can't really separate myself from them. I usually spend one day in my unit and then I go home to my family.)

"Sa sobrang dami kong gamit, yung family house namin puro gamit ko na lang. Hindi ko matiis si mama. So, I'm semi-independent. (Because I have so many things, our family house is all about my stuff. I miss my mom. So, I'm semi-independent)," Jillian said.

Jillian enjoys being a workaholic. After her three-year stint in "Abot Kamay na Pangarap," the young star said she started shooting for "My Ilonggo Girl." In between, she also finished a movie.

"Akala ko nga after 'Abot Kamay Na Pangarap' makakapagpahinga ako ng three months. Pero iba pala ang plano ni God sa akin.  After 'Abot Kamay,' nakapagshoot pa po ako ng movie. (I thought that after 'Abot Kamay Na Pangarap' I would be able to rest for three months. But God had different plans for me. After 'Abot Kamay,' I was able to shoot a movie).

"Proud po ako sa movie na yun. Hindi ko pa napapanood ng buo yung movie dahil ine-edit pa nila. Pero masaya po ako sa performance ko roon. Sana po panoorin nila. Parang dalawang linggo lang ang pahinga ko. (I'm proud of that movie. I haven't watched the whole movie yet because they're still editing it. But I'm happy with my performance in it. I hope they watch it. It seems like I only had two weeks off.)

"Noong Pasko, kasama ko ang family ko. Kumain at nagluto lang kami. Nag-music sa bahay. (On Christmas, I was with my family. We just ate and cooked. We played music at home)," said Jillian when asked how she celebrated the holidays.

First serious love team

Jillian mentioned that this would be her first experience in a love team for a television series. She is partnered with Michael Sager, who portrays her love interest in the romantic comedy program. Jillian expressed that she still feels awkward during the intimate scenes with Michael, but she said that Michael makes her feel comfortable.

"Michael makes sure na comfortable ako. Kinakausap niya ako at mine-message niya ako. Mahiyain pa rin kasi talaga ako. May side pa rin ako na bigla akong tahimik sa isang sulok. (Michael makes sure I'm comfortable. He talks to me and messages me. I'm still really shy. I still have a side where I suddenly go quiet in a corner.)

"Attentive rin naman siya. Dahil comfortable naman kami sa isa't isa, may chemistry naman kami. She did not plan to be in a love team. But then I realized gusto ko rin ma-explore ang iba't ibang character. (He's also attentive. Because we're comfortable with each other, we have chemistry. I didn't plan to be in a love team. But then I realized I also wanted to explore different characters.)

"Sa totoo lang kapag may mga scenes na super lapit kami ni Michael (Sager), medyo naiilang pa rin ako kasi nasanay ako na walang leading man. Parang bata ang nga role ko roon. Pero now parang Version 2.0. Dalaga roles na ako ngayon. It's time na talaga to grow and explore." (To be honest, when there are scenes where Michael (Sager) and I are super close, I still feel a little isolated because I'm used to not having a leading man. My role there was like a child. But now it's like Version 2.0. I'm not playing a young girl now. It's really time to grow and explore).

Falling in love

For the first time, Jillian found the courage to share her feelings about experiencing love. She reflected on the moment her heart began to flutter and how the joyous warmth of that connection transformed her world.

Jillian unveiled the vulnerability and excitement that accompanied her journey, revealing the depths of her emotions in a way she had never done before.

"Tinanong ko na rin yan sa aking mama. Nakaka-inspire rin naman ang may kilig sa life pero kung darating man, hayaan ko raw na ma-in love ako. Enjoy ko raw yun habang bata pa ako. Kung masaktan man matututo raw ako sa experience sa buhay. Mas open ako this year. (I asked my mom about that too. It's inspiring to have excitement in life, but if it comes, I should let myself fall in love. I should enjoy it while I'm still young. Even if I get hurt, I'll learn from life's experiences. I'm more open this year).

"Binibiro nga ako ng mga kaibigan ko sabi nila puro raw mga pusa ang kasama ko at kinakausap po. Apat silang pusa na lagi kong kinakausap. (My friends used to joke about me, saying that I only have cats with me and talk to them. There are four cats that I always talk to.)

"Nasanay na rin ako na growing up strict ang parents ko at parang baby nila ako. Pero ngayon binibigyan na nila ako ng freedom. So tingnan natin this year. At kapag nagkaroon ako noon, siyempre ipapakilala ko agad sa inyo. (I'm also used to my parents being strict growing up and treating me like their baby. But now they're giving me freedom. So let's see this year. And if I have one, of course I'll introduce you to them right away)," Jillian said.

Asked if she has fallen in love, Jillian laughed and answered: "Kayo talaga. Syempre, tao lang din. Pero wala pa talagang serious relationship. (Of course, we're only human. But there's no real serious relationship yet.)"

On Feb. 23, Jillian will turn 20 as she celebrates her birthday. "Dito lang ako (sa Pilipinas) pero may taping ako. Masayang masaya ako kapag may work. Feeling ko magkakasakit ako kapag walang work. (I'm just here (in the Philippines) but I'm taping. I'm happy when I have work. I feel like I'll get sick when I don't have work).

"Kapag pumupunta ako ng abroad, work pa rin ang iniisip ko. Baka pwede kahit one week na vacation. Malay niyo, doon ko pala ma-meet siya. (When I go abroad, I still think about work. Maybe even a one-week vacation will do. Who knows, I'll meet him there)," she said.

Jillian stated that it doesn't matter if the guy is from showbiz; what’s important is that he is God-fearing.

"Sa akin kahit ano ang ibibigay sa akin ni God. Gusto ko God-fearing siya. Kapag God-fearing everything else follows. Iba pa rin kapag respectful ang tao. Tapos gagawa siya ng effort para kilalanin niya ang family ko. Na-i-in-love ako kapag super bait sa family ko. (For me, whatever God gives me, I want him to be God-fearing. When he's God-fearing, everything else follows. It's still different when the person is respectful. Then he'll make an effort to get to know my family. I fall in love when he's super kind to my family).

My Ilonggo Girl

GMA Public Affairs kicks off the new year with an exciting tale of love, identity, and transformation as it proudly presents My Ilonggo Girl, a regional romantic comedy series premiering on Jan. 13, Mondays through Thursdays at 9:35 p.m. on GMA Prime.

Jillian takes on a challenging dual role as Tata, a humble Ilongga from the province, and Venice, a glamorous actress. The story unfolds when Tata is thrust into Venice’s world, leading to a series of encounters that forever changes her life.

This marks Jillian’s much-anticipated return to primetime and her debut project with GMA Public Affairs. The award-winning actress expressed gratitude and excitement for the opportunity to portray two vastly different characters.

“I feel so blessed and happy kasi 15 years na ako sa industry pero grabe pa rin ‘yung tiwala sa akin ng GMA, and first time kong magkakaroon ng teleserye with GMA Public Affairs. Nae-excite ako kasi ibang-iba siya sa mga nagawa ko na at marami akong natutunan na bago.” (I feel so blessed and happy because I've been in the industry for 15 years but GMA still has a lot of trust in me, and this is my first time doing a teleserye with GMA Public Affairs. I'm excited because it's very different from what I've done before and I've learned a lot.)

Jillian also teased what fans can look forward to in My Ilonggo Girl.

“First time kong mag-kontrabida talaga tapos dalawa pa ‘yung characters ko. First time ko ring magka-character na galing province kasi mostly ang mga characters ko taga-Maynila. Ibang Jillian ang makikita nila dahil mayroong dalawang Jillian sa show na magkaibang-magkaiba. Ang role ko rin po rito, something fresh and light, pampagaan ng gabi bago matulog ang mga tao. (It's my first time playing a villain, and I have two other characters. It's also my first time playing a character from the provinces because most of my characters are from Manila. They will see a different Jillian because there are two Jillians in the show who are very different. My role here is also something fresh and light, to lighten the night before people go to sleep)," she said.

The series boasts a powerhouse cast composed of both young, and seasoned actors that include Michael Sager, Teresa Loyzaga, Arra San Agustin, Lianne Valentin, and Arlene Muhlach, alongside talented actors Empoy Marquez, Yasser Marta, Richard Quan, Andrea del Rosario, Vince Maristela, Patricia Ismael, Yesh Burce, youngsters Sabreenika Santos, Geo Mhanna, and veteran actress Ms. Carla Martinez.

Produced by GMA Public Affairs, the creative team behind hits like Lolong 1, Black Rider, and Makiling, My Ilonggo Girl promises to bring back kilig to primetime. The series is based on an original concept by Erwin Caezar Bravo and John Mychal Ferraren, with Bravo as head writer.

Directing the series is Conrado Peru, supported by a creative team that includes Aeious Asin, John Bedia, Dickson Comia, and Lawrence Nicodemus.

Catch Jillian as she breathes life into Tata and Venice in My Ilonggo Girl, beginning Jan. 13, Mondays through Thursdays at 9:35 p.m. on GMA Prime. Global viewers can also tune in via GMA Pinoy TV.
