Is ß still used in German? My German teacher told me they no longer use it, and have 'ss' instead, so I wanted to confirm the validity of that statement.
I am German so I think I am qualified to answer this question. Your teacher is wrong. “ß” is still in use. This year even a capital version was introduced. There is no real use for the capital version except you want to write all letters of a word capitalized, but who cares.
