The southwest monsoon or “habagat” will continue to affect parts of Luzon and Visayas in the coming days, although fewer areas may be affected by Saturday, Sept. 12, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Tuesday, Sept. 8.
PAGASA weather specialist Veronica Torres said no low-pressure area (LPA) or tropical cyclone was being monitored inside or near the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) as of Tuesday morning.
However, Torres said PAGASA was not ruling out the possibility of an LPA forming in the coming days.
The habagat will continue to affect Luzon and Visayas, particularly the western portions of Central and Southern Luzon, where heavier rains are expected.
For Tuesday, Zambales and Bataan are forecast to receive 100 to 200 millimeters of rain, classified as heavy to intense rainfall.
Pangasinan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Cavite, Batangas, and Occidental Mindoro may receive 50 to 100 millimeters of rain, classified as moderate to heavy rainfall.
Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon, and Western Visayas may experience cloudy skies, scattered rain showers, lightning, and thunderstorms.
Meanwhile, the rest of the Visayas and Mindanao, which are not affected by the habagat, may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies and hot and humid weather, followed by chances of thunderstorms in the afternoon, Torres said.
Rainfall outlook
By Wednesday, Sept. 9, rainfall of 50 to 100 millimeters is possible over Ilocos Sur, La Union, Benguet, Pangasinan, Tarlac, Zambales, Pampanga, Bataan, Isabela, Aurora, Cavite, Batangas, and Occidental Mindoro.
On Thursday, Sept. 10, rainfall in Occidental Mindoro may reach 100 to 200 millimeters.
Meanwhile, more areas may experience 50 to 100 millimeters of rain, including La Union, Benguet, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, Aurora, Nueva Ecija, Pangasinan, Tarlac, Zambales, Bataan, Pampanga, Bulacan, Rizal, Metro Manila, Cavite, Batangas, Laguna, Quezon, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Albay, Marinduque, Oriental Mindoro, Romblon, Aklan, Antique, and Palawan.
Torres warned of possible flash floods and landslides in areas affected by the habagat, particularly those expected to receive heavy to intense rainfall.
