This might not be the typical expat blog, written by a German expat, living in the Philippines since 1999. It's different. In English and in German. Check it out! Enjoy reading! Dies mag' nun wirklich nicht der typische Auswandererblog eines Deutschen auf den Philippinen sein. Er soll etwas anders sein. In Englisch und in Deutsch! Viel Spass beim Lesen!

Quality of life is a concept that aims to capture the well-being of a population or individual regarding both positive and negative elements within the entirety of their existence at a specific point in time.
Quality of life is the general well-being, happiness, comfort, and health experienced by an individual or a group.
According to the World Health Organization, it is defined as an individual’s perception of their position in life in the context of their culture, value systems, goals, expectations, standards, and concerns.
Having good health, energy, and emotional stability helps one manage daily life. Access to financial security, employment, adequate housing, and basic comforts also contributes to quality of life. Strong relationships with family and friends and a sense of belonging in a community are also important, as is living in a safe area with clean air, safe water, and low levels of crime or pollution.
I am not a doctor. I am just a normal person with a different education and past experiences. I am an expat in the Philippines. I experienced the following things here.
Quality of life is a highly subjective measure of happiness that is an essential component of many financial decisions. Factors that play a role in quality of life vary according to personal preferences, but they often include financial security, job satisfaction, family life, health, and safety.
Four domains common to QOL in health have been defined as physical health, mental health, social health, and functional health.
Intellectualization is a transition to reason, where the person avoids uncomfortable emotions by focusing on facts and logic. The situation is treated as an interesting problem that engages the person on a rational basis, while the emotional aspects are completely ignored as being irrelevant.
We all know that positive thoughts and emotions help you feel better, but they also do some other pretty cool things. They help you:
Improve your memory and attention. Take in more information and hold several ideas in your mind at once. Understand how different thoughts relate to each other. Handle tough situations more easily. Positive thoughts and emotions help open you up to new possibilities. You’re better able to learn and build on your skills. That leads to doing better on tasks and tests.
Do you know where I learned this? In the Philippines. My family taught me all these things.
Building habits that encourage you to think and feel more positive can help you be more satisfied and have fewer unwanted feelings. This is especially important if you’re already dealing with a lot of negative emotions like fear, sadness, anger, frustration, or stress. Everyone has negative thoughts and feelings sometimes, but try to look on the bright side as much as you can.
Try these tips:
Notice and name any positive emotions you feel during the day. Track them in a list to be more aware of the positive feelings you experience and the situations or activities that cause them. For example, you might feel proud when you answer a question correctly, joyful when your dog or cat does something funny, or loved when a parent shows up at your game.
At the end of each day, try to find at least three good things that happened to you. This trains you to notice positive things and encourages you to do more things that cause positive emotions.
Pick a positive emotion and make it stronger. Let’s say you choose confidence. What helps you feel confident? How can you get more of that feeling? You might give yourself a “Yes, I can!” pep talk before a test. Or maybe you stand up straighter and try walking through the halls in a confident way, feeling strong. Think of positive emotions as muscles you should exercise through the way you look at things and what you do.
Be grateful. Make an effort to practice gratitude every day. This means pausing to notice and appreciate the things you often take for granted, like having a place to live, food, clean water, friends, family, and even computer access. It’s taking a moment to reflect on how fortunate you are when something good happens — whether it’s a small thing or a big thing.
Gather reminders of good experiences. Consider making a positivity box or folder filled with things like photos of good times, cards from special people, and favorite song lyrics. If you have trouble thinking or feeling positive some days, the box can lead you back to a happier emotional place.
Positive thoughts and emotions are powerful tools. So find ways to make time for them in your everyday life. Try to create room in your day for joy, fun, friendship, relaxation, kindness, and gratitude.
Quality of life is defined as a multidimensional construct integrating physical, emotional, and social well-being and functioning as perceived by the individual, as well as the degree of overall life satisfaction that is positively or negatively influenced by individuals’ perceptions of certain important aspects of life, both related and unrelated to health status.

A BETTER CALLING IN MY LIFE?
A better calling in your life starts by shifting your focus from finding a specific job title to living out a purpose rooted in everyday obedience, love, and alignment with God.
What is a calling? Your life's calling is what makes you feel that life is meaningful. It helps you live a purposeful life. Callings look different for everybody. Some people, for example, want to help others as part of their calling.
What can we do, if "career doubts" won't go away? First allow me to quote my bible, especially Jude (Watching out! Sounding an alarm!), who writes in the style of a teacher who is watching a freight train bear down on his student's driver. Yes, bells ring out: "Be merciful to those who doubt." (Jude 2:22).
What does my calling in life mean? Your calling can be thought of as the urge to share your gifts with the world. When you express your gifts for the sake of others, you often experience the joy of being fully alive.
"The way that people pick up careers is incredibly primitive," said Nicholas Lore, founder of the Rockport Institute, a career coaching firm, and author of "The Pathfinder". Strong tobacco, indeed. That's why so many people are indeed dissatisfied with their jobs.
Believe me, I always thought about a true calling for myself. Sure, people, whose careers aren't the fight fit, often feel like impostors, as Professor Robert I. Sutton, an organizational psychologist at Stanford University in Palo Alto, said. Very, very well said, Sir.
How about you, my dear reader of this column? Are you also placing too high a value on the external rewards of a job, like money, prestige and power? Of course, for many of us (most?). These things are indeed important. Hold on, please! The work you do and the skills your opportunity requires and the value of your work are really more vital to fulfillment. Paper work, or not... . You think, you find a better career fit? Go ahead - but don't expect that this is your life's career!
I waited for my "better calling" (what a terrible term!) experiencing many even better and wonderful moments in life. I also experienced that several professional things I did in the past had not been very much compatible with me. But I stored many valuable experiences.
Today, I am what I am. And, I am proud of it. Almost 73. A retiree with still so many opportunities in the Philippines.

LIFE INSIGHTS
1. You are lonely not because nobody needs you, but because you care about who is next to you.
2. Don't tell your friend what your enemy shouldn't know.
3. We all love ourselves more than other people, but we care more about their opinions than our own.
4. There are two ways of doing things; Right, and Again.
5. Your wound is not your fault, but your healing is your responsibility.
6. Letting go has to mean putting down some pieces of your history but not part of your destiny.
7. Sometimes one day changes everything. Sometimes years change nothing.
8. The trouble is, if you don't risk anything, you risk more.
9. Nothing diminishes anxiety faster than action.
10. As long as a word remains unspoken, you are its master. Once you utter it, you're its slave.

How can I stay calm in difficult situations?
Don't talk to many people about your problems. Many of them are not interested, and they do not have a solution. Telling many people about your difficult situation might erode your confidence and mental well-being, and in a sense, they might start mocking you for your difficult situation.
Accept that your actions are the only thing that can be controlled and with your actions, you will definitely find a way to get out of the difficult situation.
Be aware that being in a difficult situation is part of life and part of self-development. See the difficult situation as an opportunity to grow and learn.
Wake up every day appreciating the gift of life and read something positive. It could be a Bible or some of those spiritual books.
Go solo, meditate a lot and journal, isolate yourself from the crowd and once again, share your problem only with trusted people that might lift you again.
When things get tough, you have to get tougher and remaining calm is one of the underrated traits.life itself is not meant to be easy, but you can make life easier by conquering your fears. Be strong!!
