Are you keeping too much money in savings accounts?

Are you keeping too much money in savings accounts?

Henry Ong

Savings accounts are one of the most common ways people keep their money. They provide liquidity and convenient access to cash, which makes them useful for emergency funds and short-term financial needs.

But does keeping more money in a savings account necessarily make us financially better off? While a savings account protects our money and pays interest, it may also carry an opportunity cost when money that could have been invested for the long term remains there earning relatively low returns.

Quo vadis, BARMM? (2)

Quo vadis, BARMM? (2)

Rufa Cagoco-Guiam

Cotabato City—In June 2022, a new president assumed office after former President Rodrigo Duterte ended his term. President Marcos was elected together with his then UniTeam running mate, Sara Duterte, who assumed the position of Vice President.

This could have sent shivers down the spine of Moro leaders who were at the forefront of the armed struggle against the draconian policies of the elder Marcos.

It was through the elder Marcos’ ironclad martial law regime that victimized thousands of Bangsamoro men, women, and children in several massacres; burning of houses; gender-based violence; and other massive human rights violations, including marginalization through land dispossession.

Adult content creator Salome Salvi can finally put a nearly yearlong legal battle behind her after a court dismissed the obscenity case filed against her.
Salvi shared the development in a Facebook post on November 3, 2026, expressing relief over the outcome while recalling how the proceedings affected her work and income.
The complaint involved alleged violations of Article 201 of the Revised Penal Code, which covers obscene publications and exhibitions, in connection with Section 6 of Republic Act No. 10175, or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.
Although Salvi did not name the private organization behind the complaint, the case has been linked to the Kapisanan ng Social Media Broadcasters ng Pilipinas Inc. (KSMBPI).
Note the group was also reported to have filed a case against vlogger Brian "Tiyo Bri" Babilonia last year.
For Salvi, the legal proceedings came with professional setbacks. She revealed that she lost her podcast, which she described as a major source of income, and became discouraged from posting on social media, another platform through which she earned a living.
"Halos isang taon akong binulabog ng hinayupak na organization na yan," Salvi wrote.
She also expressed frustration over the length of the proceedings, emphasizing that it took almost a year before the case was finally resolved.
The actress did not hold back in criticizing the organization, sarcastically thanking it for taking up the time of other influencers and media personalities who, according to her, were also named in complaints despite keeping to themselves.
She also questioned the use of government resources, claiming that the case consumed the time of two prosecutors.
With the dismissal of the complaint, the actress says she can finally move forward after a legal ordeal that affected both her career and livelihood.
