The Davao City Bulk Water Supply Project, developed by Apo Agua and DCWD, began in 2018 and was completed in 2024. It can supply up to 300 million liters of treated water daily from the Tamugan River system, strengthening Davao's water supply beyond groundwater sources.
In May, DCWD also assured the public that the city had surplus water production capacity.
Of course, no city is immune to drought. But there is a difference between telling people how to prepare for a shortage and investing years ahead to help prevent one.
A balde can store water. Infrastructure can help secure a city's supply. Both have a place, but they are not the same level of preparedness.
And perhaps that's the real lesson in disaster readiness: preparation is measured not only by what people are told to do when a crisis approaches, but by what leaders build before it arrives.
Mga kababayan, is this the kind of long-term planning you want to see more of across the country?
