WORLD DAY FOR GRANDPARENTS AND THE ELDERLY

The Pastoral Care for the Elderly Ministry of the Diocese of Tandag joins the Universal Church in celebrating the 6th World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly 2026 with the inspiring theme: “I will never forget you” (Isaiah 49:15)

In his message, Pope Leo XIV reflects on God's promise in Isaiah and acknowledges that many elderly people experience loneliness and feel forgotten by society. Yet God assures every person that they are engraved on the palms of His hands and are never abandoned.
The Holy Father calls the Church to become a welcoming family where older persons are loved, valued, and accompanied. He reminds us that old age is not a burden but a vocation. Even in weakness and fragility, the elderly continue to bear witness to faith, inspire younger generations, and become powerful intercessors for peace through their prayers.
Pope Leo XIV also urges families and communities to strengthen the bond between generations, ensuring that grandparents are not left in isolation but remain active participants in the life of the Church. Finally, he entrusts all grandparents and elderly people to the Lord, praying that they may continually be renewed in faith, hope, and love, confident that God never forgets His children.
